Maintenance Features

The Bose FreeSpace 360P loudspeaker contains no user-serviceable parts. For any servicing needs, it is recommended to refer to warranty service centers or factory service to prevent warranty infractions.

Disassembly Procedures (for authorized service only):

  • Driver Removal: Remove three screws, then lift up the driver. Cut the wires close to the driver terminal.
  • Top Cap Removal: Remove three screws, then flip the unit over and lift off the top cap. Lift off the diffuser.

Test Procedures (for authorized service only):

  • Test Setup:
    • 70V version: Apply positive input signal to the red wire and negative to the black wire.
    • 100V version: Apply positive input signal to the yellow wire and negative to the black wire.
    • Connect the orange (80W) tap wire to the white wire. After testing, return the tap setting to the customer's original setting.
  • Phase Test: Apply 8 Vdc to the speaker input terminal; the driver should move outward.
  • Air Leak Test: Apply a 35 Vrms, 80 Hz signal (50 Vrms for 100V units) to the speaker input terminal. Listen for air leaks around the driver, top cap, and base seams. Repairs can only be made to the driver.
  • Rub and Tick Test: Apply a 35 Vrms, 10 Hz signal (50 Vrms for 100V units) to the speaker input terminal. No extraneous noises (rubbing, scraping, ticking) should be heard. If the sound changes when displacing the cone with a finger, it indicates a rub or tick, and the driver should be replaced. If the noise persists, it is normal suspension noise.
  • Sweep Test: Apply a 35 Vrms, 80 Hz signal (50 Vrms for 100V units) and sweep the speaker from 80 Hz to 5 kHz. Listen for buzzes, rattles, or other extraneous noises from the driver or cabinet.
