Overview

The Brabantia 18L Air Fryer Oven (model BBEK1137) is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for a variety of cooking functions, including air frying, baking, broiling, toasting, and warming. This compact oven aims to provide a convenient and efficient cooking experience for household use.

Function Description:

The Air Fryer Oven operates with a combination of heating elements and a fan to circulate hot air, ensuring even cooking and crispy results, particularly for air frying. It features a control panel with three main knobs and one button for intuitive operation:

  • ON/OFF TIME knob: This knob allows users to set the desired cooking duration, ranging from 0 to 60 minutes. Turning the timer initiates the cooking process. For short cooking times (less than 2 minutes), it is recommended to turn the knob past 2 minutes and then back to the desired time for accurate setting. The oven will automatically power off and ring once the set time expires. For baking durations exceeding 60 minutes, the timer can be turned counter-clockwise to the "normal position" for continuous baking.
  • TEMPERATURE knob: This knob controls the oven's temperature, which can be adjusted from "Warm" (80°C) up to 230°C. This flexibility allows for precise temperature control across different recipes and cooking modes.
  • FUNCTION knob: This selector knob enables users to choose from various cooking functions:
    • Warm: Ideal for keeping food warm or gently unfreezing items.
    • Broil: Used for grilling and browning food, suitable for beef, pork, and fish.
    • Toast: Specifically designed for toasting bread, with a darkness dial for desired shade.
    • Bake: Perfect for baking cakes, custards, and roasting meats.
    • Air Fry: Utilizes rapid hot air circulation for crispy results, suitable for items like french fries, chicken wings, and drumsticks.
  • OVEN LIGHT Button: A dedicated button to turn the interior oven light on or off, allowing users to monitor the cooking progress without opening the door. The light only functions when the oven has power.

The oven comes with several accessories to support its diverse functions:

  • Air Fryer Basket: A grated basket designed to allow air to circulate freely around food for even air frying. It can be used with the baking/drip pan or on the wire rack, typically in the middle rack position.
  • Wire Rack: A versatile rack that can be placed in three different positions (bottom, middle, and top) to accommodate various food sizes and cooking needs.
  • Baking Pan (or Drip Pan): This pan can also be placed in any of the three rack positions and serves multiple purposes, including baking, collecting drips during broiling or air frying, and supporting the air fryer basket.
  • Removable Crumb Tray: Located at the bottom front of the oven, this tray collects crumbs and food debris, making cleaning easier. It must always be in place when the oven is in use.

Usage Features:

The Brabantia 18L Air Fryer Oven is designed for ease of use across its different cooking modes:

  • Warming: To warm food, set the Temperature Dial to 80°C, the Function Dial to Warm, and then turn the Timer Dial to the desired warming time. The Power Light will illuminate, and the oven will power off when the timer rings.
  • Broiling: Select the Broil function and desired temperature. Turn the Timer Dial to the cooking time. The Power Light will illuminate. Users are advised to avoid glass oven dishes for broiling and to monitor food closely to prevent burning.
  • Toasting: Position the Wire Rack in Position 2. Set the Function Dial to Toast and the Temperature Dial to Toast/Broil. The Toast Darkness Dial allows for adjustment of the desired shade. The oven will power off when completed.
  • Baking: Choose the Bake function and desired temperature. Turn the Timer Dial to the cooking time. Preheating the oven for 5 minutes is recommended before baking. The Power Light will illuminate, and the oven will power off when the timer rings. The baking pan can be placed in Position 2 for most items, or Position 1 for larger items like chicken.
  • Air Frying: Place the Air Fryer Basket onto the Baking Pan or Oven Rack in Position 2. Set the Function Dial to Air Fry and the Temperature Dial to the desired setting. Turn the Timer Dial to the cooking time. The Power Light will illuminate, and the oven will power off when the timer rings.

The oven's rack system offers flexibility, with three rack positions (top, middle, and bottom) to accommodate different food items and cooking methods. The Air Fryer Basket is specifically designed to promote air circulation for optimal air frying results.

Maintenance Features:

Proper care and cleaning are essential for maintaining the performance and longevity of the Air Fryer Oven:

  • Cooling Down: Always unplug the oven and allow it to cool completely before cleaning to prevent burns.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Abrasive cleaners should be avoided as they can damage the finish. When cleaning the control panel, avoid excessive pressure to prevent text removal.
  • Interior Cleaning: The interior walls and bottom of the oven (after removing the crumb tray) can be cleaned with a damp, soapy cloth or sponge. Harsh abrasives, corrosive products, oven cleaner sprays, and steel wool pads should never be used as they can damage the oven surface.
  • Accessory Cleaning: The Wire Rack, Baking/Drip Pan, Air Fryer Basket, and Removable Crumb Tray should be hand-washed in hot, sudsy water using a nylon scouring pad or brush. These parts are not dishwasher safe.
  • Crumb Tray: The Removable Crumb Tray should be cleaned after each use to prevent smoking and the accumulation of baked-on grease. If baked-on residue occurs, soaking the tray in hot, sudsy water or using nonabrasive cleaners is recommended. The oven should never be operated without the crumb tray in place.
  • Top Interior: The top interior of the oven should be cleaned regularly to remove excess grease, especially after cooking greasy foods or using the rotisserie function (if applicable), to prevent smoking in subsequent uses.
  • Drying: Ensure all parts and surfaces are thoroughly dry before using the appliance again.
  • Cooking Containers: Metal, ovenproof glass, or ceramic bakeware without glass lids can be used. Ensure that the top edge of the container is at least 40mm (1½ inches) away from the upper heating elements. Abrasive materials or sharp utensils should not be used to clean the oven or its parts.
