Do you have a question about the Braun Skin i-expert PL7147 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Braun Skin i-Expert Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) device, Type 6036, is designed for permanent removal of unwanted, visible hair comfortably at home. It utilizes professional light technology to target melanin in the hair follicle, breaking the cycle of hair re-growth. Continuous, periodic use helps prevent unwanted hair from reaching the skin surface. The intelligent SensoAdapt™ skin tone sensors (2) continuously read your skin tone before every flash, automatically adapting the light intensity for optimal efficacy and safety. This ensures treatment is applied to appropriate skin tones and prevents treatment if the skin tone is too dark.

Contraindications and Warnings:

Do not use the device if your skin is darker than skin tone V on the skin tone chart (page 3), as dark skin absorbs more light energy, potentially causing discomfort, pain, burns, blisters, discoloration, or scarring. The device is not intended for pregnant or lactating individuals, or those under 18 years of age. Avoid use if you have a history of skin cancer or precancerous lesions (e.g., nevi or a large number of moles). If your skin has been artificially or naturally tanned recently, it may be sensitive and susceptible to side effects of IPL treatment. Avoid unprotected exposure to direct sunlight after IPL treatment.

Do not use if you have a chronic medical condition, chronic skin disease (e.g., psoriasis or vitiligo), damaged skin (e.g., sunburn, cuts, open wounds, active infections), or varicose veins in the treatment area. Avoid use if you have known sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity) or are taking medication that increases skin sensitivity (e.g., Retin A, Accutane, topical retinoids). Do not use if you have had a professional skin peel treatment in the area. Failure to follow these instructions may injure your skin or worsen existing conditions, leading to burns, blisters, skin color changes (hyper- or hypo-pigmentation), or scarring. Consult a physician or dermatologist if unsure about safe use or if taking regular medication that may impact skin sensitivity to light.

Do not use on the scalp, eyebrows, or near/around the eyes, as this may cause permanent eye damage. Avoid tattoos, permanent makeup, nipples, genitals, or the anus, as these areas may have darker skin color and/or greater hair density, potentially causing discomfort, pain, or injury. Do not use on dark brown or black spots such as freckles, birthmarks, moles, or warts. Not for use on male beards or facial hair, as this may lead to permanent or uneven results and undesirable facial characteristic changes. It is not recommended for areas with dermal fillers. Do not use more than once a week on the same area to prevent skin damage from prolonged or repeated treatment.

Eye Safety:

Do not look directly into the glass filter (9) or activate the device towards the eyes. For safety, the device activates only when both skin tone sensors are in full contact with the skin. If the device activates without full skin contact, stop use immediately and contact your retailer. Protect your eyes from exposure; do not use over eyelids or close to the eye. It is recommended to look away from the device when pressing the treatment button.

Electrical and Fire Safety:

Regularly check the device and cords for visible damage. Discontinue use if damaged or cracked to avoid electric shock. Have defects checked and repaired by an authorized service center; unqualified repairs pose extreme hazards. Always unplug the appliance after use and in case of power failure. Do not subject the device to heavy shocks. Do not position the device where it is difficult to disconnect from the mains supply. Do not leave the device unattended when switched on to avoid fire or burns. Ensure the mains plug is connected to a properly installed wall socket to prevent overheating and fire risk. No modifications or use of other components are allowed. Never attempt to repair or open the device, as this exposes you to dangerous electrical components and pulsed light energy, which can cause serious bodily harm and/or permanent eye injury. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination; do not use in wet surroundings (bathroom, near shower/pool) or allow water into the device. Do not use petroleum-based or flammable cleaning agents (alcohol, acetones) due to fire risk, or abrasive cleaning agents that may damage the device or scratch the glass filter. Do not touch the hot glass filter during or immediately after use. Do not block cooling vents to prevent overheating, electric shock, or fire hazard.

Preparation: Remove all visible hair from the skin using your preferred hair removal method. Ensure no hair remains on the skin surface to keep the treatment window clean. Clean and pat dry the treatment area.

Power On: Connect the mains cord (8) to the base station (7) and an electrical outlet. Press any button (4 or 5) to activate. The LED power bars (3) will light up, and the fan will start, indicating READY mode. The device will warm up slightly during operation.

Automatic Light Adaptation: When both skin tone sensors (2) have skin contact, the device reads your skin tone and automatically selects the appropriate light intensity, indicated by white LEDs on the Power bars (3), confirming it's ready to flash.

  • Light skin tone ➞ high light intensity
  • Dark skin tone ➞ low light intensity with fast flash rate
  • No LEDs / No skin contact ➞ device will not flash
  • Red LED / Invalid skin tone ➞ device will not flash

Sensitive Mode: Press the mode button (4) to reduce light intensity. Choose from:

  • Standard: 3 indicator lights
  • Sensitive: 2 indicator lights
  • Extra Sensitive: 1 indicator light (lowest light intensity with fast flash rate) Sensitive and extra sensitive settings are for sensitive areas and first-time users. Reduced intensity may require more treatments for desired effects. Power bars flash to confirm intensity change. Holding the mode button (4) for >3 seconds deactivates the device. After 10 minutes of inactivity, the device automatically deactivates; press any button to reactivate.

Skin Test: Before first treatment, test a small skin area (lower leg, upper leg, armpit, lower arm) for reaction. Perform two flashes side-by-side (STAMPING method). Wait 15 minutes to examine the area. If normal, begin treatment. If a reaction occurs, switch to sensitive mode and repeat the test. Wait another 15 minutes. If the reaction persists, wait 24 hours. If still present, discontinue use and consult your physician.

Treatment Methods:

The device offers two methods:

  • GLIDING: For fast and efficient treatment of large areas (e.g., legs). Place the treatment window (1) firmly on the skin, ensuring both skin sensors (2) have contact. Press and hold the treatment button (5) to initiate continuous flashing. Move the device slowly and continuously from bottom to top, maintaining full skin contact.
  • STAMPING: For small, hard-to-reach areas (e.g., face for females, pubic area, underarms, knees, shins, ankles). Place the treatment window (1) firmly on the skin, ensuring both skin sensors (2) have contact. Press and instantly release the treatment button (5) for a single flash. Lift the device and place it on the next adjacent spot, waiting for white LEDs on the power bars (3) before flashing again.

Ensure no areas are missed by placing the treatment window directly next to the previously treated spot. Avoid overlapping or treating the same area twice to prevent adverse reactions. Stop treatment immediately and consult a physician if intense pain occurs.

Treatment Heads:

  • Standard head (10): Can be used on all areas.
  • Wide head (11):* Efficient for large body areas.
  • Precision head (12):* Specifically designed for small, curvy, hard-to-reach areas. If your device comes with two precision heads, one is marked '+' to distinguish it for facial use from other body areas.

Facial Treatment (females only): Perform a skin test first. Remove visible hair, cosmetics, lotions, and creams. Close eyes or look away when pressing the treatment button. Avoid treating the same area twice. Avoid contact with lips and nostrils when treating the upper lip area; the central area below nostrils may be sensitive. Do not use on permanent/semi-permanent lip liner. Press lips together to ensure light doesn't activate on the upper lip itself. Chin hair may be denser and coarser, potentially causing slight temporary redness (disappears within 24 hours).

Pubic Area Treatment (females only): Perform a skin test first. Remove visible hair, lotions, and creams; use a mirror to confirm full hair removal. Stand, sit, or crouch to reach all areas. Use the precision head (12) with the stamping method. Select extra sensitive mode (one indicator light on mode button (4)) to prevent discomfort. Stretch skin with fingers to improve contact. The device may not flash in darker pigmented pubic areas for safety reasons, even with good skin contact. If redness or burning lasts for several minutes, apply a cool cloth/pad. If pigment changes are observed, stop use and consult a physician.

Treatment Plan:

  • Start-up phase (weekly): 1 treatment per week for 4-12 weeks.
  • Maintenance treatment (monthly): Continue as needed, e.g., every 1-2 months. The typical hair growth cycle varies (up to 16 months depending on body area). Only hairs in their growing phase are susceptible to light treatment. Discontinue weekly treatments if hair growth stops before 12 weeks and switch to maintenance.

After Treatment: Unplug the device. Apply SPF >15 sunscreen to treated areas exposed to sun. Avoid artificial light sources (tanning booths/solariums). Avoid activities and skin products that may irritate skin for 24 hours (hot tubs, saunas, tight clothing, bleaching creams, perfumed products, exfoliation products).

Maintenance Features:

Cleaning and Storage: After each treatment, inspect the treatment window (1), skin tone sensors (2), glass filter (9), and built-in reflectors for damage. Allow the glass filter to cool before touching or cleaning. Wipe the treatment window with a dry, lint-free cloth if marks or black spots are visible. Do not rinse or immerse the device in water or other liquids. Keep heads (10, 11, 12) and their reflectors free from dirt, hair, or debris; clean with a dry cloth. Store the device in a cool, dry place, protecting the treatment window and skin sensors from damage.

Disposal: The product contains recyclable electronic waste. Do not dispose of it with household waste; take it to appropriate local collection points.
