Why won't my Briggs & Stratton 030235-01 start, or why does it run rough?

If your Briggs & Stratton Portable Generator engine won't start or runs roughly, check the following: Ensure the rocker switch is set to "On" and the fuel valve is in the "Open" position. Clean or replace the air cleaner. Make sure the generator has fuel, and if the fuel is stale, drain the tank and carburetor and refill with fresh fuel. Ensure the spark plug wire is connected and the spark plug is in good condition (replace if necessary). Drain the tank and carburetor if there's water in the fuel, and refill with fresh fuel. If the engine is flooded, wait 5 minutes before re-cranking. For excessively rich fuel mixture, stuck intake valve, or loss of engine compression, contact an authorized service facility.
