Why won't my Briggs & Stratton 30235 Portable Generator start or runs rough?

  If your Briggs & Stratton Portable Generator's engine won't start or runs roughly, there are several possible causes: 1. Ensure the rocker switch is set to "On". 2. Verify the fuel valve is in the "Open" position. 3. Check and clean or replace the air cleaner if it's dirty. 4. Make sure the generator has fuel in the fuel tank. 5. If the fuel is stale, drain the tank and carburetor and refill with fresh fuel. 6. Confirm the spark plug wire is connected to the spark plug. 7. Replace the spark plug if it is bad. 8. Drain the gas tank and carburetor and fill with fresh fuel if there is water in the fuel. 9. If the engine is flooded, wait 5 minutes and try re-cranking it.
