Overview of the outdoor unit's purpose, construction, and intended use.
The Bryant Model 593C (60 Hz) Electric Air Conditioner is designed to provide quiet, reliable cooling performance for residential and light commercial applications. These units incorporate innovative technology and features that homeowners desire, offering standard SEER ratings of 10.0, with some combinations reaching as high as 11.2. All models are listed with ARI, UL (U.S. and Canada), and CEC, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
The 593C air conditioner operates as a split-system, air-cooled unit, suitable for ground or rooftop installation. It consists of a hermetic compressor, an air-cooled coil, a propeller-type condenser fan, and a control box. The unit discharges supply air upward, effectively moving sound and hot condenser air away from adjacent patio areas and foliage. The copper tube, enhanced aluminum fin coil is specifically designed for optimum heat transfer, ensuring efficient cooling. The unit's design also includes a heat pump-style drain pan for easy removal of water, dirt, and leaves.
The compressor is hermetically sealed and mounted on rubber vibration isolators to minimize noise. It is protected by internal temperature- and current-sensitive overloads, and an internal pressure relief valve provides high-pressure protection to the refrigerant system. The condenser coil is air-cooled, constructed with aluminum fins mechanically bonded to copper tubes, which are then cleaned, dehydrated, and sealed.
Refrigeration circuit components include liquid-line and suction tube shutoff valves with sweat connections, a system charge of R-22 refrigerant, and compressor oil. The unit is designed to operate satisfactorily within a voltage range of 197-253V, 208-230V single phase, 60 Hz. The control circuit operates on 24V.
The 593C offers application versatility, allowing it to be combined with a wide variety of evaporator coils and blower packages to deliver quiet, dependable comfort. It can be installed either on a roof or at ground level on a slab.
For enhanced reliability under adverse weather conditions, the unit features a totally enclosed fan motor. This permanent-split-capacitor type motor is designed for optimum efficiency and has been tested and qualified under extreme conditions. The DuraGuard™ coil protector, a heavy-duty inlet grille made of a coated steel wire grid with vertical 3/8-inch spacing, helps protect the coil from inclement weather, vandalism, and incidental damage without restricting airflow.
Optional accessories further enhance the unit's functionality and adaptability. Support feet can raise the unit 4 inches above the mounting pad, allowing sand, dirt, and other debris to be flushed from the base and minimizing corrosion, particularly useful in coastal or windy areas. A coastal filter is available to protect the condenser coil from salt damage in areas prone to salt spray.
For installations with longer interconnecting tube lengths (exceeding 50 ft) or in areas with outdoor design temperatures above 105°F, a compressor start assist (capacitor/relay type or PTC type) can be added to provide a "hard" or "soft" boost to the compressor motor at start-up. A crankcase heater is recommended for tube lengths over 50 ft or when operating below 55°F outdoor air temperature, keeping lubricant warm and preventing refrigerant slugging.
A cycle protector, a solid-state timing device, prevents rapid compressor recycling, providing an approximate 5-minute delay after power interruptions. This is beneficial in areas with frequent power outages or where the room thermostat might be frequently adjusted. A filter drier is included to remove contaminants from the refrigerant circuit.
For protection against compressor damage due to loss of outdoor airflow or high condenser inlet air temperatures, a high-pressure switch cycles the compressor off if refrigerant pressure rises too high. A low-pressure switch prevents indoor coil freeze-up due to loss of indoor airflow or refrigerant charge.
For cooling operation at outdoor temperatures below 55°F, a MotorMaster® Control or Low-Ambient Controller can be used to control condenser fan motor speed, maintaining optimal condensing temperature. An outdoor air temperature sensor can be integrated with programmable thermostats to display remote outdoor temperatures. A sound hood is available to reduce operating sound levels by about 2 decibels, ideal for units installed near quiet areas like bedrooms or between houses.
The unit is designed for easy serviceability with one access panel providing access to electrical controls and the compressor. Removal of the wire dome allows access to the fan motor, and removal of the top provides access to the coil. All models are equipped with a compressor terminal plug for improved serviceability. External brass service valves with front seating type and sweat connections are externally located, making refrigerant tube connections quick and easy, and allowing for convenient checking of operating refrigerant pressures.
