CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
To clear DTCs, connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Establish communication with Powertrain
Control Module (PCM) and follow scan tool instructions.
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
DTC B1513: CHARGING SYSTEM VOLTS LOW
Description
DTC sets when voltage falls below 10.5 volts for 30 seconds with engine running.
Testing
1. Connect scan tool. Start engine. Allow voltage to stabilize. Using scan tool, observe VOLTS parameter in
Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If voltage is 10.5-16.2 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 10.5-16.2
volts, see CHARGING SYSTEM FUNCTIONAL TEST under ON-VEHICLE TESTING.
2. Replace IPC. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Go
to next step.
3. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES . Operate vehicle
and recheck codes.
DTC B1514: CHARGING SYSTEM VOLTS HIGH
Description
DTC sets when voltage is greater than 16.2 volts for 30 seconds with engine running.
Testing
1. Connect scan tool. Start engine. Allow voltage to stabilize. Using scan tool, observe VOLTS parameter in
Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If voltage is 10.5-16.2 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 10.5-16.2
volts, see CHARGING SYSTEM FUNCTIONAL TEST under ON-VEHICLE TESTING.
2. Replace IPC. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Go
to next step.
3. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle and recheck codes.

NOTE: Manufacturer recommends replacing generator assembly. Bench testing
procedures are not provided.
