POWER & PERFORMANCE
• Ecotec 2.0L DOHC SIDI VVT turbocharged 4-cylinder –
Drivers will experience phenomenal throttle response plus
impressive fuel efficiency with this advanced engine. Regal’s
turbocharging technology creates up to 20 psi of boost,
allowing the engine to generate peak torque at just 2000 rpm.
– 220 hp @ 5300 rpm.
– 260 lb.-ft. of torque @ 2000 rpm.
• Dual-scroll turbocharger – To create boost, dual exhaust
passages funnel gases into rotating turbine impellers that
turn up to 162,000 times per minute. Drivers will feel the
type of immediate throttle response associated with a high-
performance engine, and virtually no turbo lag.
• Intercooler – Enhances the power-increasing benefits of the
engine’s turbocharging system. Reduces the temperature
of the compressed air feeding into the engine’s cylinders by
nearly 212 degrees. This cooler air is denser, which means that
more oxygen is packed into the engine’s cylinders for optimal
combustion and, consequently, greater power.
• Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) – Direct injection allows
the Ecotec 2.0L turbo to operate at higher boost with a
higher compression, increasing output and efficiency. Direct
injection cools the intake process compared to conventional
port injection. Fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion
chamber to further cool the charge which increases efficiency
and horsepower. Specifically designed intake ports generate
precise air flows to produce a thorough burn of the air/fuel
mixture. This process helps Regal turbo models produce the
power of a V6 from only four cylinders.
• Variable Valve Timing – Optimizes the engine’s turbocharging
system by adjusting valve timing at lower rpm for improved
turbo response and greater torque delivery.
• 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive – The
electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission was
calibrated specifically for the turbo engine’s enhanced power
capabilities. For 2012, it has been revised for improved fuel
economy. Includes Driver Shift Control for clutchless manual
shifting. Standard.
• 6-speed manual transmission – The available 6-speed manual
transmission elevates the turbocharged engine’s sport-
oriented performance.
• Fuel economy – 2012 EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings:
– Ecotec 2.0L DOHC VVT SIDI turbocharged 4-cylinder: 18 city/
29 highway mpg (automatic).
– Ecotec 2.0L DOHC VVT SIDI turbocharged 4-cylinder: 20 city/
32 highway mpg (manual).
RIDE & HANDLING
Refer to the Regal section for more details on front and rear
suspension features.
• 4-wheel independent suspension – Standard.
• Front suspension – MacPherson strut coil-over-spring design
with hollow direct-acting stabilizer bar. Standard.
• Rear suspension – Four-link independent rear suspension with
hollow stabilizer bar. Standard.
• Continuously Real-Time Damping Control – Sophisticated
sensors continuously monitor driving style and track key
data like speed, acceleration, braking, yaw rate and steering
to determine optimal suspension damping. All four vehicle
dampers are electronically controlled and can adapt within
milliseconds to the prevailing road conditions, vehicle
movements and individual driving style. In the Standard mode,
the shock absorbers read the road up to 500 times a second
to adapt to changing driving conditions. Standard on Turbo
Premium III.
• Interactive Drive Control System (IDCS) – As part of the
Continuously Real-Time Damping Control System, IDCS allows
the driver to choose between three different operating modes
that change suspension settings, automatic transmission shift
response and steering sensitivity. Standard on Turbo Premium
III equipment group.
– Standard is the default setting. It provides a balanced ride
that is optimized for all driving situations, especially daily
commuting and city traffic.
– Tour adjusts all settings to enhance Regal’s ride comfort.
This setting is ideal for relaxed long-distance highway
driving. It helps minimize unwanted movements by soaking
up road imperfections.
– Sport mode sharpens the speed-sensitive steering system’s
response and automatic transmission shifts become crisper.
The suspension’s electronically controlled dampers stiffen
to ensure optimum road holding for a heightened active
driving experience. The result is improved driver connection
and more assertive, dynamic ride character.
• 4-wheel disc ABS with Brake Assist – A four-channel ABS
system with Brake Assist is standard. Front and rear rotors
are larger than non-turbo model brakes. Vented 12.6" (front);
12.4" vented (rear). (See the Safety section for more details.)
• StabiliTrak Stability Control with Traction Control – Standard.
(See the Safety section for more details.)
• Variable-effort hydraulic power steering – Provides
more assist at lower speeds and less assist at higher
speeds. Standard.
• Wheels – 18" and 19" with all-season tires.
– 18" 13-spoke painted alloy (Q56): Standard.
– 18" 7-spoke chromed alloy (Q52): Available.
– 19" 9-spoke painted machined alloy (Q70): Included with
Premium III.
