POWER & PERFORMANCE
Ecotec 2.0L DOHC SIDI VVT turbocharged 4-cylinder On
Regal GS, the engine and its turbocharger are tuned to deliver
greater boost pressure. This high-output version of the engine
includes a 3"-diameter exhaust system that provides reduced
back pressure and, consequently, more horsepower and
torque. The Regal GS turbo has the response and acceleration
of a V6 engine with the fuel economy of a 4-cylinder.
270 hp @ 5300 rpm.
295 lb.-ft. of torque @ 2500–4000 rpm.
0–60 mph: 6.7 seconds (estimated).
Dual-scroll turbocharger To create boost, dual exhaust
passages funnel gases into rotating turbine impellers that turn
up to 162,000 times per minute. (See the Regal Turbo section
for more details.)
Intercooler – Enhances the power-increasing benefits of the
engine’s turbocharging system. (See the Regal Turbo section
for more details.)
Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) Direct injection
allows the engine to operate at higher boost with a higher
compression, increasing output and efficiency. (See the Regal
Turbo section for more details.)
Variable Valve Timing (VVT) – Optimizes the engine’s
turbocharging system by adjusting valve timing at lower rpm
for improved turbo response and greater torque. (See the
Regal Turbo section for more details.)
6-speed manual transmission The standard 6-speed manual
transmission elevates the turbocharged engine’s sport-
oriented performance.
6-speed automatic transmission During the model year,
an electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission
specific to the Regal GS will be available. It accommodates the
increased power and torque capabilities of the engine and
features Driver Shift Control. (Interim availability.)
Fuel economy 2012 GM-estimated fuel economy ratings:
High-output Ecotec 2.0L DOHC VVT SIDI turbocharged
4-cylinder: 19 city/27 highway mpg (manual).
High-output Ecotec 2.0L DOHC VVT SIDI turbocharged
4-cylinder: TBD city/TBD highway mpg (automatic).
RIDE & HANDLING
4-wheel independent suspension Standard.
HiPerStrut front suspension Exclusive to Regal GS, this
sophisticated suspension adds increased control and crisper
handling dynamics to the front MacPherson strut suspension.
The HiPerStrut system helps reduce torque steer. Drivers will
experience improved tire grip, increased cornering power and
greater steering precision and feedback. Standard.
Enhanced rear suspension Uses Regal’s 4-link independent
rear suspension and hollow stabilizer bar with GS-specific
tuning. The rear suspension aids vehicle stability by
minimizing unwanted toe and camber effects that can occur
during spirited driving. Standard.
Continuously Real-Time Damping Control System Standard.
(See Regal Turbo section for more details.)
Interactive Drive Control System (IDCS) As part of the
Continuously Real-Time Damping Control System, IDCS allows
the driver to choose between three different operating modes
that change suspension settings, steering sensitivity and
transmission shift response (automatic transmission only).
Standard is the default setting. It provides a balanced ride
that is optimized for all driving situations, especially daily
commuting and city traffic.
Sport mode provides a level of performance between
Standard and GS mode.
GS mode, exclusive to the Regal GS, optimizes dynamic
driving. It tightens suspension and steering response, and
shifts become crisper (automatic transmission only). The
instrument panel’s backlighting also changes from Ice Blue
to White in GS mode.
4-wheel disc ABS with Brake Assist GS front and rear brake
rotors are larger for increased stopping power. Vented 14.0"
4-piston aluminum Brembo caliper (front). 12.4" vented single
piston (rear). (See the Safety section for more details.)
Brembo front calipers Provide excellent stopping power.
Brembo is known as a leader in vehicle and racecar
brake systems.
StabiliTrak Stability Control with Traction Control Standard.
(See the Safety section for more details.)
Variable-effort hydraulic power steering – Provides
more assist at lower speeds and less assist at higher
speeds. Standard.
Wheels – Standard 19" wheels and available 20" wheels with
GS-specific tires enhance vehicle handling dynamics.
19" 5-twin spoke alloy wheels (Q9T) with Goodyear Eagle
RSA P245/40R19 all-season tires: Standard.
20" 5-twin spoke polished alloy wheels (R01) with
Pirelli P-Zero P255/35-ZR20 summer-only performance
tires: Available.
