It is essential that you keep your Burley trailercycle properly main tained. Shortcuts
or missed maintenance checks often result in a failure that can leave you strand ed,
or worse, result in ac ci dent and se ri ous injury. Unless you are a qual i fi ed bi cy cle
me chan ic, contact your Burley dealer to per form all repairs and main te nance.
Hitch Maintenance
The head set, hitch spin dle, safety pins, and hitch knob as sem blies should be
in spect ed before each ride to ensure that all are tight ly as sem bled, and that the
area under the hitch plate is clear of debris and clean so that the safety pin lever and
safety pins slide freely.
At least once a year, the headset and hitch-spindle bearings should be cleaned and
repacked. The headset should be serviced much like a bicycle headset. Make sure
there is no slop and that the headset lock nut is tightened securely. The hitch-
spindle as sem bly should be main tained in much the same fashion as a bicycle hub.
Torque hitch spindle nuts to 20 ft.-lb. See Illustration on page 16.
