Overview

This document provides user instructions for the CADAC Power Cooker, Model No: 5431, an appliance designed for outdoor cooking.

Function Description

The CADAC Power Cooker is a gas-powered cooking appliance primarily intended for use with CADAC domestic gas cylinders. It functions as a portable cooker, allowing users to prepare meals outdoors. The appliance utilizes a burner to generate heat for cooking, with a pot stand to support cookware. A control knob allows for adjustment of the flame intensity.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Compliance: SANS 1539:2017
  • Appliance Category: Cylinder Vapour Pressure propane / butane mixture (LPG)
  • Nominal Consumption: 168 g/hr
  • Nominal Heat Input: 2.3kW
  • Jet Type: No.21 CADAC jet
  • Maximum Pot Size: Diameter 300mm
  • Minimum Safe Distances:
    • Above the appliance: 1.2m
    • Rear and sides: 600mm

Usage Features

The Power Cooker is designed for ease of use and portability, but emphasizes safety during operation.

Setup and Connection:

  • Before connecting to a gas cylinder, users must ensure the rubber seal (H) is in place and in good condition. A damaged or worn seal must be replaced.
  • The appliance should only be used in a well-ventilated location, even if used indoors.
  • It must always be operated on a firm, level surface.
  • Gas cylinders should be fitted or changed outdoors, away from any ignition sources like naked flames or electric fires.
  • The appliance is designed exclusively for CADAC domestic gas cylinders; attempting to fit it to other types of cylinders can be hazardous.

Lighting the Appliance:

  • To light the appliance, a flame (e.g., from a match or lighter) should be held to the burner.
  • The gas control knob (N) is then slowly turned anti-clockwise (in the direction of the "+" arrow) until the gas ignites.
  • Once lit, the appliance should not be moved, as this could cause liquid gas to enter the appliance from the cylinder, resulting in large yellow flames.

Flame Adjustment:

  • The flame size can be adjusted by turning the control knob (N). Turning it anti-clockwise increases the flame size, while turning it clockwise decreases it.

Safety Precautions During Use:

  • Never leave the appliance unattended when lit.
  • Parts of the appliance become hot during use, so oven gloves are recommended to avoid touching hot parts with bare hands.
  • Young children should be kept away from the appliance at all times.
  • The appliance must be kept away from flammable materials, maintaining minimum safe distances (1.2m above, 600mm to the rear and sides).

Troubleshooting During Use:

  • Gas Leak: If a gas leak is suspected (smell of gas), the cylinder valve must be immediately closed, and the appliance moved outdoors to a well-ventilated, flame-free area. Leaks should be detected using soapy water, never a flame.
  • Light Back (Ignition inside burner/mixing tube): If this occurs, the gas supply must be immediately turned off by closing the control valve on the cylinder. After the flame extinguishes, the appliance can be re-lit following the standard procedure. If light back persists, the product should be returned to an authorized CADAC repair agent.
  • Yellow Flame: A normal flame is blue with a possible orange or yellow tip. A completely yellow flame may indicate that the jet is not securely fitted (requiring re-tightening for a gas-tight seal) or an overfilled gas cylinder. Overfilled cylinders should be returned to a filling station for weight check.
  • Flame Power Drop or Failure to Light: This could indicate that the gas cylinder is empty (shake to hear liquid noise) or that the jet is blocked.

Shutting Down:

  • After use, the control knob must always be turned fully clockwise to the "off" position.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of the Power Cooker.

Cleaning:

  • The appliance should be cleaned by wiping it with a damp cloth and a little dishwashing liquid.
  • It must NOT be immersed in water, as this can cause water to enter the burner and primary air holes, leading to malfunction.
  • Abrasive cleaners should not be used as they can cause permanent damage to the surface.
  • After cleaning, the appliance should be unscrewed from the gas cylinder and stored in a cool, dry place away from heat.

Jet Replacement (Blocked Jet):

  • A blocked jet can result in a small or no flame. Users should never attempt to clean the jet with a pin or similar device, as this can damage the orifice and make the appliance unsafe.
  • To replace a jet:
    1. Ensure the cylinder valve is closed.
    2. Allow the appliance to cool if it has been in use.
    3. Unscrew the appliance from the gas cylinder.
    4. Remove the Mesh and Filter using a thin flat screwdriver.
    5. Unscrew the visible jet from the adaptor using a suitable size flat screwdriver. Pliers should not be used as they can damage the jet.
    6. Screw a new CADAC No. 21 jet into the CADAC Cooker, ensuring a gas-tight seal. Do not overtighten.

Seal Replacement:

  • The rubber seal (G) should be removed carefully without damaging its seat.
  • A new seal should be replaced, ensuring it is well seated.
  • After replacement, connect to a gas cylinder following the instructions in sections 2 and 3.

General Maintenance Reminders:

  • Check that the air holes (G) in the adaptor are clear and free of obstructions.
  • The appliance should not be modified, as this can make it unsafe.
  • Only genuine CADAC spares and accessories should be used, as they are designed for optimum performance.

Repair and Service:

  • If any fault cannot be rectified by following these instructions, the appliance should be returned to a local CADAC distributor for inspection or repair.
