CANNON POOLS: TUFF SPA OWNER’S MANUAL
You are now an owner of a Cannon Spa. This Hot Tub will bring you to a world of relaxation!
1. See owner’s manual to hook up electrical. If 220V, the wires can be run through a small conduit
near the ground, left kiddy-corner of the controls. The majority of these spas run at 110V 20
AMP and the 10’ cord is already connected. Extension cords can cause a problem, so avoid
using. Also, use a dedicated outlet. Using 220V 50 AMP GFCI and will require 4 copper wires:
2 #6 hot, 1 #8 neutral, and 1 #10 ground with the outside portion placed inside ¾” weather tight
conduit. The platinum spas are preset for 220V. Others will have to be converted by removing
the existing 110V cord, removing the jumper that goes from J32 on the red AC to the WHT AC
on the left of the board, and turning dip switch 10 on the switch bank to off. We recommend
using an electrician experienced with spas, and are not liable for the electrical installation.
a. For 110V, dip switches 2,3,7, and 10 need to be the only ones on.
b. For 220V, dip switches 2,3, and 7 need to be the only ones on.
2. Remove the spa filter and fill up your spa with water into the area where the filter is located. If
the source is well water, consider paying a 3
rd
party water hauler OR use a pre-carbon filter which
are available at any Cannon location. Keep the spa water level 3" above the highest jet. Most
Never allow the water level to drop below the top of the filter cartridge. If the water level is too
low, the skimmer will allow air into the water lines of the pump, causing it to lose its prime and
could possibly result in further equipment damage.
3. Set temperature.
4. Set filter cycle. The factory setting is for 2 hours, 2x per day. This works well for most, but if
the spa is being used daily, then you can increase the duration. Keep in mind the ozone is emitted
while in the filter setting.
5. Put a test strip in the water and ensure the pH, alkalinity, and hardness are in the correct ranges.
If the pH, alkalinity, or hardness are off, adjust accordingly. Inexpensive balancing chemicals can
be purchased also at your nearest Cannon location, along with free water analysis. We
recommend bringing a water sample in a Tupperware or Ziplock bag at the start and as often as
you like until you feel comfortable with at home testing.
6. The at home test strips do not measure metals such as iron and copper. This can be tested at the
store and products are available to remove them. Metals are often found in well water.
7. Wait until water gets hot and enjoy your first soak!

Overview

The Cannon Spa is a hot tub designed for relaxation and hydrotherapy, featuring a comprehensive set of functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance features to ensure optimal performance and user experience.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Cannon Spa is to provide a relaxing and therapeutic hot tub experience. It circulates heated water through jets, offering massage and relaxation. The spa incorporates an ozone system for water sanitation and can be equipped with the FROG @ EASE system for advanced chemical maintenance. It allows users to control water temperature, filter cycles, and jet intensity to customize their experience.

Important Technical Specifications:

The spa can operate on two different electrical configurations:

  • 110V 20 AMP: This configuration uses a dedicated outlet and comes with a 10-foot cord already connected. Extension cords are not recommended.
  • 220V 50 AMP GFCI: This configuration requires 4 copper wires: two #6 hot, one #8 neutral, and one #10 ground. The outside portion of the wiring must be placed inside a 3¼" weather-tight conduit. Platinum spas are preset for 220V. For other models, conversion from 110V to 220V involves removing the existing 110V cord, removing a jumper from J32 on the red AC to the WHT AC on the left of the board, and turning dip switch 10 on the switch bank to off. Professional electrician installation is recommended for 220V setups.
    • Dip Switch Settings:
      • For 110V: Dip switches 2, 3, 7, and 10 should be ON.
      • For 220V: Dip switches 2, 3, and 7 should be ON.

Usage Features:

  • Filling the Spa: Remove the spa filter and fill the spa with water until it is 3 inches above the highest jet. If using well water, a pre-carbon filter or a third-party water hauler is recommended to prevent metal contamination. It is crucial to never allow the water level to drop below the top of the filter cartridge to prevent air from entering the pump lines, which can cause the pump to lose its prime and lead to equipment damage.
  • Temperature Setting: Users can set their desired water temperature.
  • Filter Cycle Setting: The factory default filter setting is 2 hours, twice per day. This can be increased for daily spa use. The ozone system operates during the filter setting.
  • Water Chemistry Monitoring: Regular testing of pH, alkalinity, and hardness using test strips is essential. Inexpensive balancing chemicals are available at Cannon locations, along with free water analysis. Bringing a water sample to a Cannon location is recommended for initial setup and as needed for comfort.
  • Metal Testing: At-home test strips do not detect metals like iron and copper. These can be tested at a Cannon store, and products are available to remove them, especially if using well water.
  • FROG @ EASE System: This system simplifies water maintenance.
    • Assembly: Snap the top (blue, mineral emitter, lasts 4 months) and bottom (grey, SmartChlor emitter, lasts 1 month) halves together.
    • Dial Setting: Set the dial on the grey half according to spa volume:
      • 200-299 gallons = setting 1
      • 300-450 gallons = setting 2
      • 451-550 gallons = setting 3
      • 551-600 gallons = setting 4
      • Swim spas require multiple units.
    • Activation: Float the unit in the water and add a packet of Jump Start (dichlor) to activate the minerals.
    • SmartChlor Replacement: The grey half needs to be changed monthly. The floater will flip over (grey side up) when the SmartChlor is empty. To verify, lift, drain, and place back in the spa to see if it flips completely.
  • Spa Filter Settings (Pump 1, Low Speed):
    • Filter Start Time: The first cycle begins when the spa is powered up, and the second cycle starts 12 hours later.
    • Cycle Duration: Default is 2 hours (F2). Options include 4 hours (F4), 6 hours (F6), 8 hours (F8), or continuous (C).
    • Programming: Press "Warm" or "Cool," then "Jets." Press "Warm" to adjust the duration, then "Jets" to exit.
    • Mode: Change mode by pressing "Warm" or "Cool," then "Light." The spa should be in "Standard" (ST) mode, not "Economy" or "Sleep."
  • Dials Around the Spa Perimeter:
    • Medium Dials: Control air flow, making jets feel stronger when open.
    • Large Dials (not on TT150, 250, or 350 models): Divert water from pumps to various seats.
    • Massage Customization: Adjust pump speed, large pump dial, air control, and individual jets.

Maintenance Features:

  • Water Chemistry Balance:
    • pH (7.2 – 7.6): If too low, add pH increaser to prevent shell etching. If too high, add pH decreaser to prevent scale, cloudiness, and equipment compromise.
    • Alkalinity (80 – 120 ppm): If too low, add alkalinity increaser to prevent pH fluctuations. If too high, add muriatic acid to prevent cloudiness.
    • Hardness (150 – 250 ppm): If too high, dilute water to prevent calcium scale on the shell and mechanicals.
  • Metal Control: Use a pre-carbon filter on the fill hose or add a metal sequestrant agent like Brilliance metal and scale control to prevent metals (except silver) in the spa water.
  • Foam Control: Ensure air controls are off when not in use. Avoid lotions and detergents on bathing suits. Use Brilliance defoamer if needed. In severe cases, drain half the water.
  • Shock Treatment: Shock the spa once a month or when water is hazy using an oxidizing non-chlorine shock (monopersulfate).
  • FROG @ EASE System Maintenance:
    • Top Half Replacement: Replace the blue top half (mineral emitter) every 4 months.
    • Test Strips: Test water weekly and adjust levels accordingly using the included bottle of 30 test strips.
  • Water Replacement: Change the spa water every 4 months. Before draining, use Brilliance Jet Cleanse to thoroughly clean the plumbing of organics/biofilm.
  • Filter Cleaning: Remove the filter and clean it regularly.
  • General Equipment Care: Avoid allowing the water level to drop below the filter cartridge to prevent pump damage.
