This document describes the ELSNAP-RAPID, ELSNAPS, and ELSNAPL electromechanical barriers with 24 Vdc motors, manufactured by Cardin Elettronica S.p.A. These barriers are designed for intensive use and are suitable for controlling vehicle access in openings from 3 to 6 meters wide.

Function Description

The EL SNAP-RAPID series of electromechanical barriers are designed for controlling vehicle access. The core function involves a motorized boom that opens and closes to regulate traffic flow. The system operates with a 24 Vdc motor, ensuring efficient and reliable performance.

Key operational features include:

Encoder-controlled movement: The boom's movement is precisely controlled by an encoder, allowing for accurate positioning and smooth operation.
Fast opening: The barriers are designed for rapid opening, which is crucial in high-traffic environments.
Integrated warning light: A built-in LED warning light on the head of the structure enhances safety by signaling boom movement.
External mechanical release: In case of power failure or system malfunction, an external mechanical release mechanism (operated with an Allen key) allows for manual operation of the boom.
Master-Slave configuration: The system supports a Master-Slave setup, enabling two opposing barriers to operate in synchronization. This is particularly useful for wider entrances or exits where two barriers are required to meet in the middle.
Integrated electronic programmer: The barrier includes an electronic programmer with a power section and control logic. An optional radio receiver system can also be integrated for remote control.
Automatic re-closure: The barrier can be configured to automatically re-close after a programmed pause time, enhancing security and convenience.
Safety device inputs: The control unit supports various safety devices such as photoelectric cells (FT input), safety edges (CC input), and stop buttons (TB input), which can be configured to stop or reverse boom movement upon detection of an obstruction or activation.
Courtesy light output: An output for a courtesy light can be configured to activate from the beginning of the work cycle for a programmable duration after closing.
Warning light output: A dedicated output for a warning light can control a 2 Hz flashing light.
Suction cup output: An active output for an electromagnetic suction cup during opening, closing, and pause.
Barrier status contact: An output that is active when the boom is not closed, providing feedback on the barrier's position.
Blackout operation: The barrier can be configured to remain open during blackouts. If power returns and the automatic re-closure dip switch is set to ON, the barrier will close.
Photocell re-closure intervention: Activation of a photocell can reduce the pause time to 2 seconds, regardless of the programmed pause time setting.

Important Technical Specifications

The EL SNAP-RAPID series offers robust performance with varying specifications depending on the model (EL SNAP-RAPID, EL SNAPS, EL SNAPL), primarily differing in boom length and associated spring configurations.

Boom Balancing Springs: The type and number of springs vary based on the boom length and any added accessories (e.g., ELUFS1, ELUMS1, ELSRS). For example, a 3m SNAPPER3 boom typically uses one yellow SP-YE spring, while a 5m SNAPPER5 boom uses one red SP-RE spring. Adding accessories like ELUMS1 or ELSRS can change the required spring type to green SP-GR or white SP-WH.

Usage Features

The barriers are designed for ease of use and adaptability to various installation scenarios.

Left/Right-hand opening: The boom opening direction can be configured for either left or right-hand operation, providing flexibility during installation.
Adjustable speed: The barrier speed can be set to high, medium-high, medium-low, or low, allowing customization based on traffic volume and safety requirements.
Manual override: In emergencies or during installation, the boom can be manually released and operated.
Programming options: The electronic programmer allows for setting opening/closing positions, pause times, and courtesy light durations.
Maintenance alarm: The control unit can signal a maintenance alarm after a programmed number of cycles (default 100,000), reminding users to perform necessary checks.
Total maneuver display: The system can display the total number of maneuvers performed, providing valuable data for maintenance scheduling.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the barrier.

Qualified personnel: All maintenance operations, including cleaning and repairs, must be carried out by qualified technicians using original and certified spare parts.
Power disconnection: Before any cleaning or maintenance, the appliance must be disconnected from the mains power supply, motor power cables, and batteries (if present).
Periodic checks: The manufacturer's warranty (24 months or 1 million maneuvers) is valid only if the following checks are performed:
- Moving parts: Periodically check for wear and tear on pins and lubricate moving parts with suitable lubricants that maintain friction levels between -20°C and +70°C.
- Safety devices: Periodically verify the correct operation of all safety devices (photoelectric cells, safety edges, etc.).
- Battery charge: Check the battery charge level if the system is equipped with buffer batteries.
Documentation: All maintenance checks must be documented to validate the warranty as per Cardin Elettronica's General Sales Conditions.
Motor maintenance: The motor generally does not require specific maintenance.
