INTRODUCTION
NOTE:Fastenersshouldbereplacedwiththesameorhighergrade.Ifhighergradefasten-
ersareused,theseshouldonlybetightenedtothestrengthoftheoriginal.Whenreplac-
ingcapscrews,alwaysuseacapscrewofthesamemeasurementandstrengthasthecap
screwbeingreplaced.
NOTE:Makesurethefastenersthreadsareclean,andthatthreadengagementisstarted.
Thiswillpreventthemfromfailingwhenbeingtightened.Assurethatjointsthatutilize
threadedfastenersareproperlytightened,andthattheyremaintightduringtheperiodof
theirintendedusage.
NOTE:Tightenplasticinsertorcrimpedsteel-typelocknutstoapproximately50%oftable
torque,appliedtothenut,notthebolthead.Tightentoothedorserratedtypelocknutsto
theirfulltorquevalue.
NOTE:Alwaysusethetorquevalueslistedinthesuppliedchartsinthissectionwhenval-
uesarenotsuppliedinaprocedure.
NOTE:DONOTusethesetorquevalueswhenvaluesaregiveninaspeciedprocedure.
NOTE:Reuseoffasteners.Fastenersthathavebeentightenedaboveyieldpointduring
assemblyshouldnotbereusedafterdisassembly.Theyhavebeenpermanentlydeformed
andtheelasticrangehasbeenshiftedclosertotheultimatetensilepoint.
NOTE:TorqueandTurnisarecommendedprocedureformanufacturingandservicewhen
sophisticatedtoolsarenotavailable,especiallyforlargediameterfasteners.
NOTE:Largediameterfasteners,unlessspecicallystated,shouldbetightenedin
sequenceusingtherelatedtorquechartbelow,atalowtorquethatissufcientuntilthe
jointisclosed.Eachboltisthenrotated90degreesinsequence.Eachboltisthenrotated
another90degreesinsequence.Theresultisaclamploadabovetheyieldpoint.This
procedureresultsinaconsistentclampload.Thefastenersshouldnotbereusedafter
disassembly.
