Make sure the torque converter
is
installed on the trans-
mission. Three splined shafts must be engaged for the
torque converter to be installed correctly.
STEP 139
Install a stud 2-3/4 inches (70 mm) long with 1 0 mm
threads
in
one of the holes
in
the
flex
plates
so
the stud
is
to the left side
as
shown. Make sure the flex plates are
not bent or damaged.

Carry the engine over the frame.

Move the engine forward and lower the engine.

Push the engine toward the front. Have another person
align the stud with the hole
in
the flywheel.
STEP 143
Install the cap screws and lock washers that fasten the
clamps for the wire harness, and the bracket for the
heater hose to the flywheel housing. Install the re-
maining cap screws and lock washers that fasten the
transmission to the flywheel housing. Tighten the cap
screws to 480 to 528 pound-inches (54 to 60 Nm).
