This document describes the operation and features of a CASIO watch, model 5165.
The CASIO watch, model 5165, is a multi-functional timepiece offering various modes and features for timekeeping, measurement, and alerts.
Timekeeping Mode: This is the primary mode for displaying the current time and date. Users can adjust the Home Time city, date, and time. The lower right display can toggle between showing the date and the hour/minutes/seconds. It supports both 12-hour and 24-hour timekeeping formats. The 12-hour format displays a "P" (PM) indicator for times between noon and 11:59 p.m., while the 24-hour format displays times from 0:00 to 23:59 without a PM indicator. The watch's built-in full automatic calendar accounts for different month lengths and leap years from 2000 to 2099.
Daylight Saving Time (DST): The watch allows users to enable or disable Daylight Saving Time (summer time), which advances the time setting by one hour from Standard Time. The DST indicator appears when DST is turned on. DST can be set individually for each city code, except UTC. Turning on DST for the Home City also applies it to normal timekeeping.
Stopwatch Mode: This mode allows for measuring elapsed time, lap times, and split times. It can also calculate and display speeds if a distance value is specified. The stopwatch has a digital display range of 99 hours, 59 minutes, 59.999 seconds and continues to run even if the mode is exited. A 1/10 seconds graphic indicates ongoing stopwatch operations.
Countdown Timer Mode: Users can set a countdown timer with a start time ranging from one minute to 24 hours. An alarm sounds when the countdown reaches zero. An auto-repeat function can be enabled, which automatically restarts the countdown from the original value. The countdown timer operation continues even if the mode is exited.
World Time Mode: This mode displays the current time in one of 48 cities (29 time zones) around the world. The times are synchronized with the Timekeeping Mode and are based on UTC offsets. Users can scroll through available city codes, view the date for a selected city, and toggle between Standard Time and Daylight Saving Time for each city code. A unique feature allows swapping the Home City with the currently selected World Time City, which is useful for frequent travelers.
Alarm Mode: The watch features five alarms: four daily alarms (AL1, AL2, AL3, AL4) and one snooze alarm (SNZ). An Hourly Time Signal (SIG) can also be activated, causing the watch to beep twice every hour on the hour. Alarm tones sound for 10 seconds at the preset time, regardless of the current mode. The snooze alarm repeats seven times, every five minutes. Alarm and Hourly Time Signal operations are based on the Home City time.
Illumination: The watch incorporates an LED (light-emitting diode) to illuminate the display for easy reading in the dark. The illumination duration can be set to either 1.5 seconds (LT1) or 3 seconds (LT3).
