Overview

This document provides a quick start guide for several models of Casio Electronic Cash Registers, including the PCR-T2300, T2400, SE-S3000, SE-S900, and SE-C3500. It covers initial setup procedures, basic operation, and daily workflow.

Function Description:

The Casio Electronic Cash Register series is designed for retail environments to manage sales transactions, track sales data, and generate reports. Key functions include:

  • Sales Registration (REG Mode): For processing normal sales transactions.
  • Refunds (RF Mode): To correct registered items or process returns.
  • Programming (PGM Mode): Allows users to configure various settings of the cash register to suit the specific needs of their store, such as tax tables, date, and time.
  • Reporting (X, Z, X2/Z2 Modes):
    • X (Read) Mode: Used for issuing daily sales totals reports without clearing the accumulated data. This is useful for checking current sales figures during the day.
    • Z (Reset) Mode: Used for issuing reports of daily totals and simultaneously clearing the accumulated totals. This is typically performed at the end of the day.
    • X2/Z2 Mode: Used to print periodic sales reports, offering more detailed or cumulative reporting options.
  • Offline Mode (OFF Mode): Turns off the cash register.

Important Technical Specifications:

While specific technical specifications like memory size or processor speed are not detailed in this quick start guide, the document highlights several operational aspects:

  • Memory Protection: The cash register relies on two "AA" type manganese batteries to protect stored information (settings and sales data) during power failures or when unplugged. These batteries are crucial for data integrity.
  • Printer System: The device features a thermal printer for both receipt and journal paper.
    • Receipt Paper: Used for customer receipts.
    • Journal Paper: Used for internal records, such as detailed transaction logs.
  • Mode Switch: A physical key-operated switch (Mode key) controls the operational mode of the cash register. Different keys (Program key, Operator key) grant access to different modes. The Program key (PGM) can select any position on the Mode switch, while the Operator key (OP) is limited to OFF, REG, or CAL positions, indicating different levels of access control.
  • Power Source: The device operates by plugging a power cord into an AC outlet.
  • Display: Features a display screen for language selection, date/time setting, tax table selection, and general operation.

Usage Features:

  • User-Friendly Setup: The guide provides step-by-step instructions for initial setup, including battery installation, paper loading, and basic configuration.
  • Language Selection: Users can select their preferred language upon initial power-on.
  • Date and Time Setting: The system allows for precise setting of date and time, using a 24-hour format for time input.
  • Tax Table Configuration: Users can define and select tax tables, including specific tax rates and associated areas (e.g., Alaska, with rates for Kanai, Homer, Haines, Juneau).
  • Paper Loading: Detailed instructions are provided for loading both receipt and journal paper, emphasizing correct orientation and secure placement.
  • Help Guidance: A dedicated "HELP" key allows users to access on-screen or printed guidance for operation and programming issues, with the ability to enter specific numbers for targeted help.
  • Online Resources: The guide directs users to online resources for programming assistance (http://casio4business.com/sa_index.html) and technical support (TOLL FREE 1-800-435-7732). It also mentions a setting tool available for download (http://www.casio4business.com/sa/products/index_products.html).
  • Daily Job Flow: The guide outlines a typical daily workflow, including pre-opening checks (power, paper, date/time, change), in-store operations (registrations, sales reports), and closing procedures (day's total report, money withdrawal, turning off the machine).

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: The memory protection batteries (AA type) should be replaced at least once a year to prevent data loss. The guide provides clear instructions for accessing and replacing these batteries.
    • Warning: Emphasizes not to recharge the batteries, expose them to heat, short them, or take them apart. It also warns about the risk of explosion if replaced with an improper type and the danger to children if swallowed.
  • Printer Maintenance: Users are warned not to touch the printer's thermal head and platen, and to protect thermal paper from heat, humidity, or direct sunlight to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the printer.
  • Paper Management: Instructions for loading paper correctly and tearing off excess paper are provided to ensure smooth operation and prevent jams.
  • Drawer Management: Recommends leaving the cash drawer open after withdrawing all money at the end of the day.
