Battery Replacement Policy
Summary
CenTrak devices are designed to work exclusively with authorized batteries purchased from CenTrak*.
All battery replacements for Tags, Monitors, Virtual Walls, and Exciters, must use the authorized
replacement battery listed in the CenTrak device catalog and can be obtained for your particular
devices from CenTrak sales representatives, account management, and the CenTrak Webstore at
centrakstore.com. CenTrak has obtained assurances from our manufacturers to ensure batteries will
meet the stringent requirements to properly operate all technical aspects of CenTrak devices.
Voiding of Warranty
Proper battery usage and replacement practices help ensure devices can continue to be covered by
the CenTrak warranty. Failure to comply will result in termination (voiding) of device warranty. Please
refer to the CenTrak Warranty for more detailed information.
Definition of an Unauthorized Battery
Batteries purchased from sources other than CenTrak or a CenTrak Authorized Reseller, even if
the battery is the same brand and model as the authorized battery.
Authorized batteries that did not follow proper battery storage guidelines or surpassed their
shelf-life expectancy.
Mixing of new authorized batteries and unauthorized batteries for devices that utilize more than
one battery.
Using different brand batteries in monitors than what came with the monitor, even if the battery
is authorized battery. Different brand batteries can be indicated by battery color.
* Using authorized batteries purchased from CenTrak will have assurances that include the device production date, shipping
and storage conditions, and direct shipment from the manufacturer. Batteries purchased from commercially available sites
such as Amazon, Batteries Plus, BattDepot, etc. (even if these are of the same brand, make and model number as CenTrak) are
not acceptable replacements. Batteries from a single manufacturer can vary greatly in performance and may not meet CenTrak
standards for manufacturing, storage and handling.

Overview

This document outlines CenTrak's Battery Replacement Policy, detailing the requirements for authorized batteries, the consequences of using unauthorized batteries, and how to manage battery replacements using the Connect Pulse™ system.

Function Description

CenTrak devices, including Tags, Monitors, Virtual Walls, and Exciters, are designed to operate exclusively with authorized batteries purchased directly from CenTrak or a CenTrak Authorized Reseller. These batteries are specifically chosen and assured by CenTrak's manufacturers to meet the stringent technical requirements for proper device operation. The policy emphasizes that using unauthorized batteries will void the device's warranty and can lead to inconsistent device performance, inaccurate Low Battery Indications (LBI), and increased labor costs due to more frequent battery changes.

The Connect Pulse™ cloud-based software is a key component of battery management. It aggregates and analyzes data from CenTrak devices, providing insights into the overall health of the network and hardware. Pulse categorizes battery status into "Good," "Less than 90-Days," and "Less than 30-Days." This system helps customers plan and forecast battery change activities, including acquiring authorized batteries, scheduling staff, and notifying affected departments. When a device's battery depletes to "Less than 30-Days," Pulse recommends immediate replacement with an authorized battery to prevent failure. Upon replacement, Pulse automatically processes the battery replacement indication and moves the device back to "Good" status.

Important Technical Specifications

The document provides a table of authorized battery model numbers and their corresponding supported hardware. Examples include:

  • ITAK-356: Lithium D-Cell Battery (TAD) (10-Pack) for IT-313, IT-323, ITD-318, ITD-325, ITD-340.
  • ITAK-402: Hand Washing Monitor Battery (CR123A) (10-Pack) for IT-373.
  • ITAK-764: Tag Battery CR-2430 (50-Pack) *With Battery Removal Tool for IT-710E, IT-712E IT-713, IT-713E, IT-722E, IT-723, IT-723E, IT-724E, IT-744E.
  • ITAK-765: MM Staff Tag Battery Contacts 1/10 D-Cell Battery T (10-Pack) for ITD-763E.
  • ITAK-766: MM Patient Tag Battery Contacts 1/10 D-Cell Battery T (10-Pack) for ITD-762E.
  • ITAK-767F/ITAK-767T: MM Tag Battery ER14250 (1/2 AA) (10-Pack) for IT-716E, IT-735, IT-739, ITD-761E.
  • ITAK-768: Micro Tag Battery CR-2032 (25-Pack) for IT-717E, IT-720E.
  • ITA-770: MM Temp Tag Battery ER14505H 3.6V AA (10-Pack) for ITD-738F, ITD-736, ITD-733, ITD-732, ITD-751.

Battery health calculation is a complex process, not solely relying on voltage measurement. CenTrak's proprietary algorithms assess multiple factors over time, including historical usage, time-in-motion, communication rates, current voltage, and battery recovery after load application, to estimate remaining battery life.

Usage Features

The policy defines an "unauthorized battery" as:

  • Batteries purchased from sources other than CenTrak or an Authorized Reseller, even if they appear to be the same brand and model.
  • Authorized batteries that were not stored according to proper guidelines or have exceeded their shelf-life.
  • Mixing new authorized batteries with unauthorized batteries in devices that use multiple batteries.
  • Using different brand batteries in monitors than what originally came with the monitor, even if they are authorized, as different brands can be indicated by battery color.

Connect Pulse™ provides a structured approach to battery replacement:

  • Good Status: Indicates strong battery health; no action required.
  • Less than 90-Days Status: Estimated life expectancy is less than 90 days. This status is for planning and forecasting. CenTrak does not recommend replacing batteries at this stage, as Pulse will not automatically reset the device to "Good." Manual intervention by CenTrak Support is required if batteries are changed during this period.
  • Less than 30-Days Status: Estimated life expectancy is less than 30 days. CenTrak recommends replacing batteries as soon as possible to avoid failure. Replacing with an authorized battery in this status automatically updates Pulse to "Good."

Maintenance Features

Proper battery usage and replacement are crucial for maintaining device warranty. Failure to comply with the policy will void the warranty.

Connect Pulse™ Automatic Battery Replacement Indication workflow:

  1. When a new, authorized battery is added to a device in "Less than 30-Days" status, the device should move to "Good" status with a blue battery icon within 48 hours. This blue icon signifies an initial indication of a new battery.
  2. Over the next week (up to 5 days, potentially 10 days depending on battery health or network coverage), Pulse performs additional processing. Once a final determination is made that a new, authorized battery was added, the icon changes to green, and the "Battery Replaced On" field updates with the date of detection.
  3. If the criteria for a new, authorized battery are not met during processing, the device reverts to "Less than 30-Days" status, indicating an issue.
  4. Devices with visible battery contact issues (bent, water/humidity corrosion) may experience degraded performance and premature entry into "Less than 90-Days" or "Less than 30-Days" status, even with authorized batteries. Such issues can also prevent proper Pulse updates.

Common battery replacement failures and RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) recommendations:

  • If an unauthorized battery is used, Pulse may not detect standard battery health levels, or detected levels may immediately drop, causing the device to remain in or revert to "Less than 30-Days" status.
  • If an authorized battery is used but battery contact issues exist, health levels may initially be detected but then drop, causing the device to revert to "Less than 30-Days" status.
  • If a device goes offline before Pulse completes processing after an authorized battery replacement, it may revert to "Less than 30-Days" status.
  • If a device is offline before and after battery replacement, Pulse will not register any battery health information, and the device will remain in "Less than 30-Days" status.

In case of a battery replacement failure, CenTrak recommends replacing the batteries one more time with authorized batteries. If the failure persists, CenTrak advises replacing the device with a functioning one and sending the failed device back for RMA and further analysis.
