62 Seats and Restraints

Danger
This picture shows a child seated in a
seat with a lap-shoulder belt used
incorrectly. If a child uses the belt this
way, in a crash the child can suffer
injuries and risk of death.
Child Restraint Systems
Infants and children should be placed in the
rear seat and properly restrained, according
to the terms in this manual.
A young child’s hip bones are so small that
the vehicle’s regular seat belt may not
remain low on the hip bones, as it should.
Instead, there is a possibility that it will load
the abdomen and cause serious or fatal
injury in a crash.

NEVER use a rearward-facing child
restraint on a seat protected by an
ACTIVE AIRBAG in front of it; DEATH or
SERIOUS INJURY to the CHILD can occur.

If using a rear-facing child restraint on
the front passenger seat, the airbag for
the front passenger seat must be off. This
also applies to certain forward-facing
child restraints as indicated in the tables
listed in this manual.

When a child restraint is being used, pay
attention to the following usage and
installation instructions and also those
supplied with the child restraint.
Always comply with local or national
regulations. In some countries, the use of
child restraints is forbidden on certain seats.
