Bedside Checklist: Pre-Therapy

Connect to Venous Access Catheter

Disconnect lines from priming bag/UF bag, open clamps, ensure HUB to HUB connection without caps.

Initiating Therapy

Monitor Venous Access

Check Pw and Pi pressures, ensure Blood Flow rate is no lower than 20ml/min.

Pressure Readings: Access

Withdraw Pressures (Pw)

Measures circuit patency on the withdraw (blue) side. Negative pressures -20 to -300 mmHg.

Infusion Pressures (Pi)

Measures circuit patency on the infusion (clear) side. Positive pressures +20 to +300 mmHg.

Troubleshooting Considerations

Pw or Pi Pressures Out of Range

Troubleshoot by repositioning, flushing, adjusting flow rate, switching lumens, or changing access.

Pressure Readings: Filter

Ultrafiltrate Pressure (Pu)

Measures hemofilter patency. Pressure range is -250 to +200 mmHg.

Filter Status and Resistance

Measures filter resistance; a value less than 1.5 indicates a viable filter.

Action Steps: Alarm or Alert

Responding to Alarms and Alerts

Silence alarms, interpret instructions, and press CLEAR to advance or resolve the alert.
