All Ciro products are designed for
"easy assembly" and/or "plug and
play". We recommend a competent
mechanic install our products, using
standard mechanical procedures to
assure a safe and successful
installaon.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Park on a level surface and shut off the motorcycle. Ensure that the engine has had me to cool before installaon.
2. Prepare the clamp and engine guard surface by using soap and hot water to remove any dirt followed by an ammonia
based glass cleaner to remove any wax or oil.
3. Remove the 1/2” hex bolt from the clamp assembly. Separate the clamp halves and place them around the engine guard.
The serrated face of the clamp should be facing outward and away from the motorcycle.
NOTE: The Clevis and extension arm can be assembled in mulple posions. Experiment to find a
posion that suits the rider. (FIG.1.)
4. In its approximate final locaon, reinstall the hex bolt and thread it into the extension arm unl finger ght. Adjust the
assembly to the desired posion.
CAUTION: Ciro recommends a thread locking fluid such as 3M Scotch-Weld TL-43 for this installaon.

Overview

The Ciro Twin Rail Highway Peg Mounts with Extension Arm are designed to provide adjustable footrest positions for motorcycle riders, enhancing comfort during long rides. The system includes a set of right and left Twin Rail Footrests, along with corresponding Clamp Clevis Mount Right and Left Assemblies.

Function Description:

The primary function of this product is to allow riders to extend their legs and change their foot position while riding, which can significantly reduce fatigue on extended journeys. The "Twin Rail" design likely refers to the aesthetic or structural design of the footrests themselves, suggesting a robust and potentially stylish appearance. The "Extension Arm" is a key component that provides adjustability, allowing the footrests to be positioned further away from the engine guard, catering to different rider heights and preferences. The "Clamp Clevis Mount" system is responsible for securely attaching the entire assembly to the motorcycle's engine guard. The clevis mechanism, combined with the extension arm, allows for multiple adjustment points to achieve an optimal ergonomic setup.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual provides specific torque values for various fasteners, which are critical for safe and secure installation:

  • 1/2" Hex Bolt (Clamp to Extension Arm): 40-45 ft.-lb. torque. This bolt secures the main clamp assembly to the extension arm, bearing significant load.
  • 3/8" Socket Head Screw (Clevis to Extension Arm): 12-16 ft.-lb. torque. This fastener connects the clevis, which allows the footrest to fold, to the extension arm.
  • 3/8" Socket Head Screw (Clevis): 12-16 ft.-lb. torque. This likely refers to a fastener within the clevis mechanism itself, controlling its pivot.
  • 5/16" Socket Head Screw (Footrest): 10-13 ft.-lb. torque. This screw attaches the footrest to the footrest adapter, allowing for angle adjustments.

The fasteners themselves are specified:

  • Hex Bolt: 1/2"-13 x 1 3/8"
  • Flat Washer: 1/2"
  • Socket Head Screw: 3/8"-16 x 1" (for clevis to extension arm)
  • High Collar Lock Washer: 5/16"
  • Button Head Screw: 4-40 x .375 (likely for the click tab spring mechanism)
  • Socket Head Screw: 3/8"-16 x 1 3/8" (for clevis)
  • Narrow Washer: 5/16"
  • Socket Head Screw: 5/16"-18 x 1" (for footrest)

The use of a "Click Tab Spring" and a "D" Spring suggests a detent or spring-loaded mechanism for holding the footrest in position or for its folding action.

Usage Features:

The product emphasizes "easy assembly" and "plug and play" design, indicating a user-friendly installation process. However, it recommends installation by a "competent mechanic" using "standard mechanical procedures" to ensure safety and success.

Key usage features revolve around adjustability:

  • Height Adjustment: The angle of the extension arm can be adjusted to change the height of the footrest, accommodating riders of different statures.
  • Folding Action Adjustment: The angle of the clevis attached to the extension arm can be adjusted to control how the footrest folds, which is important for clearance and rider preference.
  • Footrest Angle Adjustment: The angle of the footrest on the footrest adapter can be adjusted to find a comfortable position for the rider's foot.
  • Multiple Positions: The clevis and extension arm can be assembled in multiple positions, allowing riders to experiment and find the most suitable setup. This flexibility is crucial for personalized comfort.

The manual includes illustrations (FIG.1) showing typical right-side assemblies for both "average height" and "taller height" riders, demonstrating the product's adaptability.

Maintenance Features:

While not explicitly detailing ongoing maintenance, the manual highlights critical aspects related to initial installation and long-term reliability:

  • Surface Preparation: Before installation, the clamp and engine guard surfaces must be cleaned with soap and hot water to remove dirt, followed by an ammonia-based glass cleaner to remove wax or oil. This ensures proper grip and prevents slippage.
  • Thread Locking Fluid: Ciro strongly recommends using a thread locking fluid, specifically 3M Scotch-Weld TL-43, for all installations. This is a crucial maintenance step to prevent fasteners from loosening due to vibration, ensuring the safety and stability of the footrests.
  • Proper Torque: Adhering to the specified torque values for all fasteners is paramount. Overtightening can strip threads or damage components, while undertightening can lead to loosening and potential failure.
  • Regular Checks: Although not explicitly stated as a maintenance feature, the instruction to "Check and securely tighten all fasteners" after initial installation implies the importance of re-checking fasteners periodically, especially after initial use, to ensure they remain secure.

Warranty Information:

Ciro offers a comprehensive warranty:

  • General Warranty: 3 years from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship, provided the product is maintained and operated under normal conditions.
  • LED Failure Warranty: A lifetime warranty against LED failure (though this product does not appear to have LED components, this is a standard clause in Ciro's warranty).
  • Proof of Purchase: Customers must show proof of purchase for warranty claims.
  • Installation and Maintenance: Warranty will not be granted unless the part is properly installed and maintained.
  • Liability Exclusion: Ciro is not liable for consequential and incidental damages, including labor or non-Ciro products.

The emphasis on proper installation, cleaning, and the use of thread locking fluid underscores the importance of these steps for the product's longevity and the rider's safety. The design prioritizes adjustability to cater to a wide range of riders, making it a versatile accessory for motorcycle touring.
