Overview

This document describes the Clam Escape Ice Shelter, model number 10944, a portable ice fishing shelter designed for outdoor use in cold weather conditions.

Function Description:

The Clam Escape Ice Shelter provides a temporary, enclosed space for ice fishing, offering protection from the elements. It is designed to be easily set up and taken down on the ice. The shelter is intended for use by multiple people, with instructions advising at least two people for setup. It features a hub-style design, which allows for quick deployment and collapse. The fabric is treated with a flame retardant to meet CPAI-84 specifications, although it is not fireproof. The shelter includes vents for fresh air ventilation, which are crucial when using oxygen-depleting heaters to prevent asphyxiation. Reflectors are incorporated into the exterior for visibility at night, enhancing safety in areas with snowmobile and auto traffic. The shelter is designed to be anchored to the ice using ice anchors, especially in windy conditions, to prevent collapse or movement.

    • Wall sections are popped out by grasping a loop on an eyelet in the center of each wall panel and pulling upward and outward.
    • The ceiling hub is pushed straight up from inside the shelter to pop up the ceiling.
    • No tools are needed for setup.
    • A setup video is available online at www.clamcorp.com for visual guidance.
    • Practice setup at home in a heated area is recommended before on-ice use.
  • Anchoring:
    • Secured to the ice using six included ice anchors, screwed into the ice near corners and in the middle of the sides.
    • An adjustable strap grommet is fed onto the ice anchor and cinched tight.
    • In windy conditions, additional anchors can be screwed several feet away from the hub on the windward side, with straps attached from the eye bolt on the side panel hub to the remote anchor.
    • The Clam Ice Anchor Installation Tool (PN 108348) is available separately.

    • Flip the flattened shelter over and gather it together.
    • Place the folded shelter and anchor/rope pouch back into the carrying case with hubs toward the bottom.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Asphyxiation Risk: Do not use oxygen-depleting heaters without opening all vents for fresh air ventilation.
    • Fire Hazard: Tent fabric is not fireproof and will burn with extended exposure to open flame. Do not use open flame products inside the tent. Application of foreign substances may render flame retardant properties ineffective.
    • Melting Risk: Tent fabric will melt if it comes into contact with hot surfaces (e.g., heaters).
    • Unattended Use: Never leave the shelter unattended when set up.
    • Visibility: Use lights or reflectors at night due to increased traffic on lakes. Exterior reflectors must be visible to reduce collision risk.
    • Wind: Use external tie-downs in excessive wind (15+mph).

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • It is recommended to dry the ice shelter completely after each use to prevent moisture damage.
    • Store the shelter in a cool, dry place, away from rodents.
    • For mildew smell, a solution of 10 parts water to 1 part bleach can be used.
    • A standard soap can be used to wash the tent.
    • Do not place the shelter canvas/tent into a washing machine for cleaning.
  • Patching:
    • Patch kits are available online at www.clamcorp.com under "Parts/Info."
    • When applying a patch, it is recommended to spray adhesive (e.g., 3M #77 or #90) on both the tent and the patch, wait for it to become tacky, then place the patch.
  • Water Repellency:
    • Customers have used water repellent sprays or applications (like those for camping tents or boots) on the outside of the shelter to prevent water from coming through. These products will not damage the tent.
  • Zipper Maintenance:
    • Zipper lubricants (gel or silicone spray) can be used to prevent freezing or sticking.
  • Rodent Prevention:
    • Store the tent in a sealed plastic tote with dryer sheets or moth balls to deter rodents.
  • Warranty:
    • Warranted to the original retail purchaser for one year from the date of original purchase against manufacturer defects.
    • Warranty does not cover cracked windows, tent tears, broken/bent poles due to high wind/weather conditions, or unattended use.
    • Warranty is void if the product has been subject to neglect, misuse, improper installation, misapplication, alteration, or accident, including improper maintenance or use of unauthorized parts/attachments.
    • An original, dated receipt is required for warranty claims.
