Overview

This document describes the Polar Trailer LG7/LG10/LG900 Side Rail Kit, an accessory designed to enhance the functionality of Polar Trailers.

Function Description:

The Side Rail Kit is an attachment intended for use with Polar Trailers (specifically LG7, LG10, and LG900 models) in lawn care and home applications. Its primary function is to extend the carrying capacity and secure items within the trailer bed, preventing them from falling out during transport. The kit consists of front and side rails that are assembled and then bolted onto the existing plastic base of the trailer. This accessory is designed for off-road use only, emphasizing its utility in environments like yards, gardens, and other non-highway settings.

Important Technical Specifications:

The kit includes specific part numbers for different components:

  • LG7 Front Rail: Part No. 104059
  • LG10 Front Rail: Part No. 104067
  • Side Rail: Part No. 104063 (2 units)
  • 1/4-20 X 2" Screw: Part No. 101230 (4 units)
  • Washer, 1/4" Flat: Part No. 101081 (10 units)
  • Nut, 1/4-20 Nylock: Part No. 101163 (10 units)
  • 1/4-20 X 1.50″ Screw: Part No. 101473 (6 units)

The assembly process involves drilling six 5/16" (8mm) holes into the trailer's plastic base to secure the rail kit. The maximum recommended tow speed with this attachment is 10 MPH.

Usage Features:

The Side Rail Kit is designed for ease of assembly and integration with compatible Polar Trailers. Users are instructed to assemble the side rails to the front rail first, then position the assembled kit on top of the trailer's plastic base to mark and drill the necessary holes. Once the holes are drilled, the rail kit is bolted securely to the trailer.

Important safety guidelines are provided for towing loads safely:

  • Stopping Distance: Increases with speed and weight; allow extra time and distance to stop.
  • Towed Weight Limits: Do not exceed limits specified in the towing vehicle operator's manual.
  • Slopes: Excessive towed load can cause loss of traction and control on slopes; reduce towed weight when operating on inclines.
  • Children/Others: Never allow children or others in or on towed equipment.
  • Hitches: Use only approved hitches designed for towing; do not attach towed equipment except at the approved hitch point.
  • Weight Limits: Follow manufacturer's recommendations for weight limits for towed equipment and towing on slopes.
  • Turning: Do not turn sharply; use additional caution when turning or operating under adverse surface conditions.
  • Reversing: Use care when reversing.
  • Coasting: Do not shift to neutral and coast downhill.

Protection of Bystanders:

  • Keep bystanders away when operating a towed attachment.
  • Before backing the machine and attachment, carefully check behind for bystanders.

Keeping Riders off Towed Attachment:

  • Riders on a towed attachment are subject to injury from being struck by objects or being thrown off during sudden starts, stops, and turns.
  • Riders obstruct the operator's view, leading to unsafe operation.
  • Keep riders off the hitch bracket or trailer tongue.

Maintenance Features:

The document primarily focuses on installation and usage, with less emphasis on ongoing maintenance for the rail kit itself. However, it provides comprehensive warranty information, which is crucial for addressing potential defects or issues.
