17. Place foot on service
brake pedal and apply pres-
sure by pushing down.
Pedal should be "firm". If
pedal feels "spongy" or
"fades" under pressure DO
NOT OPERATE THE
TRUCK. Report brake de-
ficiency immediately to the
proper authority.

18. Make certain that the
parking brake lever is in the
"on" (full-up) position.
Brake holding power can be
adjusted by rotating the
knob on top of the lever
clockwise to increase hold-
ing power or counterclock-
wise to reduce it. (See page
33 of this manual for hold-
ing specifications).

19. Check to make sure
that transmission direc-
tional control lever is in
neutral position.
These trucks are equipped
with a neutral start switch
and cannot be started in
forward or reverse unless
switch is faulty or im-
properly adjusted. Report
switch condition on your
check list.
