Jump
Starting
2.
Put the
truck with
the
good (charged) battery
so
that
the
jumper cables
will reach.
DO NOT
PERMIT
THE
TRUCKS
TO
TOUCH
AND
CHECK
TO
SEE
THAT
THE
TRUCKS
DO NOT
TOUCH.
3.
Turn
all
accessories
on
both trucks
to the
"Off" position. Turn
the
igni-
tion
key to the
"Off" position, apply
the
parking brake,
and put the
transmission
of
both trucks
in the
neutral position.
4.
If the
discharged battery
has
filler
caps, check
the
fluid
level.
(DO NOT
USE
AN
OPEN FLAME
TO
CHECK.
DO NOT
SMOKE.)
Add
distilled
water
to the
correct level,
if
low,
and
install
the
caps before jump start-
ing.
If the
battery
is a
sealed type,
do not try to
jump start
the
truck,
or
charge
it or
test
it if the
center
of the
test indicator
in the
battery
is
bright
or
light
colored. Instead,
install
a new
battery.
5.
Jumper cable connection instruc-
tions (Fig.
24871):
a.
Connect
the
first jumper cable
from
the
positive
"
+
"
(Red) ter-
minal
on one
battery
to the
positive
"
+
"
(Red) terminal
on
the
other battery.
NEVER
connect
"
+
"
(Red)
to
"
-
"
(Black),
or
"
-
"
to
"
+
".
