Overview

The Clesana C1 is a mobile waterless toilet that operates on a bag-welding principle, designed for sanitary bagging of excrements and personal hygiene articles. It can also be used for bagging nappies or biowaste. The device is intended exclusively for non-public areas.

Function Description:

After each use, the toilet welds its contents into a separate, odour-proof foil bag. The foil bag is made from a multiple-folded continuous foil, called the foil liner, which is mounted on a foil cassette and inserted into the foil compartment. This foil bag replicates a toilet bowl. When the flushing process is triggered via the control panel, the toilet automatically pulls foil from the cassette, welds it, and prepares for the next use. The closed foil bags are collected in a removable tray, which can hold up to 6 bags (corresponding to two bag chains of three bags each).

The toilet features a lid/seat that covers the foil compartment and protects against water ingress. A control panel with a display shows the remaining toilet uses with the inserted foil liner, operating status, and error codes. The housing/base body supports the lid/seat, foil cassette, Teflon tape, and tray. Depending on the installation, an L-Adapter or a round base can be used for mounting on a wall, floor, or free-standing placement. Teflon tapes (PTFE Tapes) are crucial for preventing the welding seam from sticking and tearing during the welding process.

Usage Features:

  • Operation: The Clesana C1 should always be operated with a correctly mounted lid and a fully inserted tray. It is crucial never to press the toilet lid downwards, as this can damage the Soft-Close mechanism. The toilet must not be used without an inserted foil liner.
  • Foil Liner Management: The display indicates the theoretically available number of large bags. Users should check for sufficient foil before each use, especially when the display shows less than 5 available bags. A new foil liner is inserted by lifting the lid unit, removing the old cassette, placing the new liner over the cassette, and reinserting it. The protruding foil is pulled up, folded inwards, and distributed evenly in the compartment. After reassembling the lid unit, the arrow button on the control panel is pressed for 3 seconds to weld the foil tube and reset the counter.
  • Absorber Use: For fluid binding, Clesana Super Absorber is recommended. The powder dissolves upon contact with fluids, binding them in the foil bag. The absorber should be kept away from children and eyes, and swallowed absorber may cause nausea.
  • Filling Level: Users must note the filling level to avoid interrupting the welding process. Toilet paper should not exceed the maximum filling level.
  • Flushing Process: The flushing process separates individual bags by welding. After three bags, the bag chain automatically separates from the foil liner and falls into the tray. Users can select "small," "large," "extra small," or "extra large" flushing processes via the control panel, depending on the desired bag size and paper quantity.
  • Manual Bag Separation: This optional function allows users to separate a bag from the foil liner after flushing and remove it directly from the tray. This is initiated by pressing and holding the "Separate" button followed by the desired bag size button.
  • Interrupting Flushing: The welding or separation process can be interrupted at any time, for example, if an incorrect bag size was selected. The welding jaws return to the start position after interruption.
  • Restarting the Toilet: If the control panel is unresponsive or an error occurs, the toilet can be restarted. The number of remaining toilet trips is stored.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The Clesana C1 is low-maintenance due to its waterless operation and the renewal of the "Foil bowl" with each use. Regular cleaning of the toilet seat, lid, foil compartment, and base body with a moist cloth and commercially available cleaning materials is recommended. The toilet should not be cleaned with running water or bleach. If the welding unit comes into contact with water, it must be allowed to dry for 24 hours without an inserted foil liner.
  • Teflon Tape Change: Both Teflon tapes must be changed simultaneously after approximately 1500 weldings/separations, as their non-stick coating wears off, leading to problems in foil transport and welding. The process involves removing the foil cassette, closing the lid, pressing the "Flushing process" button to open the welding jaws, and then levering out the old tapes with a slotted screwdriver. New Teflon tapes are clicked into the guide rails, ensuring all retaining lugs are in place and undamaged.
  • Professional Maintenance: Any maintenance work should be carried out by authorized qualified personnel, ideally by the dealer or manufacturer.

  • Residual Risks:
    • Live Parts: Do not open the base body to avoid exposure to live parts and the risk of electrocution.
    • Burning/Pointed Objects: Do not dispose of burning materials or pointed/sharp-edged objects in the toilet to prevent fires and damage to the foil bag.
    • Water Ingress: Avoid exposing the toilet to jet water. Always use the toilet when seated and ensure the lid is properly placed and the tray fully inserted in wet rooms to prevent short-circuits or damage to electronics.
    • Moving Parts: Keep the area around the toilet clear of objects to prevent crushing injuries from the rotating mechanism.
    • Harmful Substances: Keep the absorber away from children. In case of eye contact, rinse with water; if swallowed, rinse mouth and drink water, and seek medical attention if discomfort persists.
