This document is the owner's manual for the Cobra Petrol Chipper, model CHIP700L (DR-GS-350H). It provides comprehensive instructions and safety guidelines for the operation and maintenance of the wood chipper.
Function Description
The Cobra Petrol Chipper is a high-powered machine designed solely for chipping wood. Its primary function is to reduce branches and other wooden materials into smaller chips, making them suitable for composting, mulching, or disposal. The machine features an infeed hopper for larger materials and a smaller chipper chute for branches. It is powered by a petrol engine, offering mobility and independence from electrical power sources. The chipper is equipped with twin reversible blades for efficient cutting and a discharge chute to direct the processed material. An emergency stop switch is integrated for immediate shutdown in hazardous situations.

Usage Features
The manual emphasizes safe and correct usage of the wood chipper. Operators must be fully trained and familiar with the manual's contents.
- Safety First: Before operation, ensure the machine is on level ground, all guards are fitted, blades are sharp and secure, and all fasteners are tight. The emergency stop wire must be correctly connected and functional. A fire extinguisher should be available on site.
- Material Handling: Only WOODEN materials free of nails or other foreign objects should be fed into the machine. Branches over 1/2 inch diameter should be placed in the small chipper chute, while smaller branches go into the large shredder hopper. The maximum wood diameter for chipping is 100mm.
- Operator Zone: The operator must remain in the designated "Operator Zone" at all times during operation, avoiding placing any body parts into the in-feed chute.
- Starting Procedure:
- Position the chipper on flat, dry ground and ensure it cannot move.
- Check engine oil level and top up if necessary.
- Set the fuel shut-off valve to "ON."
- Move the choke control lever to "CHOKE" (for cold engines).
- Move the throttle control lever to "FAST."
- For recoil start, turn the ignition switch to "On," pull the starter handle rapidly. For electric start, turn and hold the key until the engine starts.
- Slowly move the choke control lever to "RUN" once the engine is running well.
- Warm up the engine at half throttle for 3-4 minutes, then advance to maximum speed.
- Stopping Procedure:
- Move the throttle lever to "IDLE."
- For recoil start, turn the ignition switch to "OFF."
- For electric start, turn the key to "OFF."
- Blocked Roller: If the roller stops, immediately stop the engine, remove the jammed wood, and then restart.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective goggles or safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, tight-fitting gloves, and steel-toed shoes. Avoid loose clothing or jewelry. Long trousers and non-slip shoes are recommended.
- Bystander Safety: Keep children and pets at least 50 feet away from the work area. Stop the engine if anyone approaches.
- Fuel Handling: Petrol is highly flammable. Refuel outdoors with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke or have open flames nearby. Store fuel in approved containers away from heat and children.
- Engine Operation: Never run the engine in an enclosed area due to carbon monoxide risk. Do not tamper with the engine's governor setting. Keep combustible substances away from a hot engine. Do not cover the machine while the muffler is hot.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for the chipper's performance and longevity.
- Pre-Maintenance Safety: Before any maintenance or inspection, stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire (keeping it away from the plug), and wait 5 minutes for parts to cool. For electric start models, disconnect battery terminals.
- Regular Maintenance Checklist:
- Before Each Use: Check engine oil level, general equipment condition, wedge sharpness, and belts.
- Every 3 Hours: Check tire pressure.
- Every 25 Hours: Clean engine exterior and cooling fins.
- Every 100 Hours: Replace air filter and spark plug.
- First Time (5 Hours): Change engine oil.
- Engine Service: Refer to the engine manufacturer's user manual for specific engine maintenance procedures.
- Lubrication: All bearings are sealed units and are pre-lubricated for the life of the machine under normal use.
- Troubleshooting: A dedicated section provides solutions for common problems like the engine not starting, lacking power, or smoking.
- Warranty: The product comes with a 24-month warranty for material or production failures for the first user, provided it's not used commercially. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear parts, damage from abuse, accidents, alterations, or use of non-genuine Cobra parts. Proper maintenance is required to validate claims.
- Environmental Disposal: At the end of its life, the machine should be disposed of in an environmentally safe way, not with domestic waste.
The manual also includes an explosion view and parts list for easy identification of components, aiding in maintenance and repair. Assembly instructions are provided with visual aids for setting up the wheel axle, intake hopper, front resting plate, discharge chute, tow bar, intake extension chute, and connecting the emergency stop wire. It also reminds users to add engine oil before first use, as the engine is shipped without it.
