Overview

This document is the owner's manual for the Coleman 90402E Filter Pump. It provides essential information for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of the filter pump, specifically designed for use with storable swimming pools.

Function Description:

The Coleman 90402E Filter Pump is designed to circulate and filter water in storable swimming pools, helping to maintain water cleanliness and hygiene. It operates by drawing water from the pool, passing it through a filter cartridge to remove debris, and then returning the filtered water to the pool. The pump is equipped with a Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI) for electrical safety, which is a critical feature for preventing electric shock in wet environments.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: 90402E
  • Electrical Safety: Provided with a GFCI.
  • Motor Protection: Thermally protected motor, CSA Enclosure 3.
  • Pool Type: For use with storable pools only; not for use with permanently-installed pools.
  • Mounting: Must be mounted to a base in accordance with installation instructions to ensure continued protection against electric shock. The pedestal for mounting should have two 9mm diameter holes, spaced 166mm apart, and weigh over 18kgs to prevent accidental falling.
  • Cord: DO NOT BURY CORD. Locate cord to minimize abuse. If the power cord becomes damaged, the pump MUST BE DISCARDED.
  • Electrical Outlet Proximity: Pool must be installed no closer than 6 feet (1.8m) from any electrical outlet. Portable appliances should not be placed closer than 5 feet (1.5m) from the pool.
  • Storage Temperature: 4-40°C (39.2-104°F).

Usage Features:

  • Safety First: Emphasizes reading and following all instructions before installation and use.
  • GFCI Test: Users are instructed to test the GFCI before each use by pushing the test button (which should interrupt power) and then the reset button (which should restore power). If the GFCI fails this test or interrupts power without the test button being pushed, the pump should not be used, and a qualified service representative should be consulted.
  • No People in Pool During Operation: A strict warning states that the pump cannot be used while people are inside the pool.
  • Child Supervision: Children should not be permitted to use the product unless closely supervised.
  • Grounding: Must be connected only to a grounding type receptacle. The grounding prong should never be removed or modified, and adaptor plugs should not be used.
  • No Extension Cords: Do not use an extension cord to connect the unit to the electric supply; a properly located outlet should be provided.
  • Air Purge Valve: Before operation, the air purge valve on top of the filter pump must be opened to release air as water fills the pump. Once water comes out, the valve should be screwed closed.
  • No Dry Running: It is critical to ensure both the pool's inlet and outlet valves are fully covered by water before operating the filter pump to prevent dry running.
  • Placement: The pump should be placed on solid, level ground with adequate ventilation, drainage, and access for cleaning. It should never be placed in an area where water may accumulate or where foot traffic will flow around the pool.
  • Environmental Protection: Whenever possible, the pump should be sheltered from cold, heat, and sun exposure to prevent unnecessary wear and tear.
  • No Chemicals in Pump: Do not add chemicals directly into the filter pump.
  • Adult Assembly: Assembly and disassembly of the product should only be performed by adults.

Maintenance Features:

  • Unplug Before Maintenance: The filter pump MUST be unplugged before any maintenance or storage to prevent severe risk of injury or death.
  • Filter Cartridge Cleaning/Replacement:
    • To clean, loosen hose clamps, remove debris screens (replacing them with stopper plugs), unscrew the filter cap retainer, and remove the filter cap.
    • Clean the filter cartridge with a garden hose.
    • If the cartridge remains soiled or discolored, it must be replaced with a new one.
    • For sanitary reasons, it is suggested to replace the filter cartridge with a new one every two weeks.
  • Storage:
    • Unplug the filter pump.
    • Follow instructions to stop water flow and remove the filter cartridge.
    • Discard the used filter cartridge.
    • Detach all hoses.
    • Dry all components thoroughly.
    • Store the filter pump in a dry location out of reach of children, within the specified storage temperature range.
  • Replacement Parts: When servicing, only identical replacement parts should be used to ensure continued protection against shock hazard.
  • Hydraulic Connectors: It is imperative to check that the hydraulic connectors are not closed.
  • Customer Support: For questions, problems, missing parts, or warranty claims, users are directed to visit bestwaycorp.com/support rather than returning the product to the store.
