If your Columbia Lawn Mower engine overheats, check the engine oil level and fill the crankcase with the proper oil if it's low. Also, ensure that the airflow isn't restricted by cleaning the area around and on top of the engine.

      Jennifer MitchellSep 1, 2025
An erratic running engine in your Columbia Lawn Mower can stem from a few issues. Start by checking the spark plug boot; ensure it's securely connected and tightened. A blocked fuel line or stale fuel could also be the problem, so clean the fuel line and refill the tank with fresh gasoline. Make sure the vent in the gas cap isn't plugged, and clear it if it is. Water or dirt in the fuel system can also cause this issue; drain the fuel tank and refill with fresh fuel. If the air cleaner is dirty, please refer to the engine manual for cleaning instructions. Lastly, ensure the CHOKE is in the “OFF” position if your unit is running with it applied or in the “ON” position.

Inspect the spark plug for faults, cleaning, adjusting the gap, or replacing it as needed. A blocked fuel line could also be the culprit, so clean it out. If the engine is flooded, wait a few minutes before attempting to restart it, and avoid priming it this time. For mowers with a fuel valve, ensure it's open (refer to the engine manual). If equipped with a choke, make sure the engine is choked (refer to the engine manual). Lastly, ...
