GEAR ADJUSTEMENT
- CABLE TENSION:
The cable tension determines the precision of the gear changes. The
tension is modied by using the barrel adjuster situated on the shifter, at
the start of the cable. The more you unscrew the barrel adjuster, the more
tension you add to the cable. The more you screw in the adjuster, the more
you reduce the cable tension.
TIP! If your gears do not shift properly it may be that your frame mech hanger is
bent. The mech hanger is unusable if your rear mech is not parallel with the rear
wheel when you look at it from behind (fig.24). If this is the case, it is essential
that you change the mech hanger.

Adjustment for going up through the gears:
• Place the chain on the smallest cog.
• Work the shifter to move the chain up to the next cog.
• If the gear change does not work correctly, screw out the barrel adjuster
half a turn on the rear mech shifter.
• Reposition the chain on the smallest cog and repeat the operation until
you have a satisfactory gear change.
Adjustment for going down through the gears:
• Place the chain on the largest cog.
• Work the shifter to move the chain down to the next cog.
• If the gear change does not work correctly, screw in the barrel adjuster
half a turn on the rear mech shifter.
• Reposition the chain on the largest cog and repeat the operation until you
have a satisfactory gear change.
