Introduction
The
debug
utility
is
a
debugging
program
that
provides
a
con
trolled
testing
environment
for
binary
and
executable
object
files.
Note
that
edlin,
the
ms-dos
line
editor,
is
used
to
alter
source
files;
debug
is
edlin's
counterpart
for
binary
files.
Debug
eliminates
the
need
to
reassemble
a
program
to
see
if
a
problem
has
been
fixed
by
a
minor
change.
It
allows
you
to
alter
the
contents
of
a
file
or
the
contents
of
a
CPU
register,
and
then
immediately
reexecute
a
program
to
check
the
validity
of
the
changes
made.
All
debug
commands
may
be
aborted
at
any
time
by
pressing
control-c.
The
controls
key
sequence
suspends
the
display,
so
that
you
can
read
it
before
the
output
scrolls
away.
Pressing
any
key
other
than
control-c
or
controls
restarts
the
display.
All
these
commands
are
consistent
with
the
control
character
func
tions
available
at
the
ms-dos
command
level.
