The CONDTROL X1 is a laser distance meter designed for various measurement tasks, including linear distances, indirect measurements using the Pythagorean method, and calculations of area and volume. It is a compact and portable device, weighing 70g and measuring 110 mm x 43 mm x 26 mm (4.33 in x 1.69 in x 1.02 in).
The primary function of the CONDTROL X1 is to measure distances using a laser beam. It supports single distance measurement, continuous distance measurement, addition/subtraction of measurements, area calculation, volume calculation, and simple Pythagoras measurements for indirect height determination. The device features an LCD display that shows measurement results, battery status, laser activity, measuring reference, and measuring units.
The CONDTROL X1 is operated via several buttons:
Start-up and Battery: To start, remove the battery compartment lid, attach the handstrap, insert batteries observing correct polarity, and close the cover. The battery symbol flashes permanently when replacement is needed. Batteries should be removed during long periods of non-use to prevent corrosion.
Reference Point: Measurements can be taken from two reference points: the back edge or the forward edge of the instrument. Switching between these points is done by consecutively pressing the "Reference button/Unit of Measurement" button (U), and the corresponding indicator lights up on the display.
Unit Setting: The device allows setting various units for distance, area, and volume. To change units, press and hold the "Reference button/Unit of Measurement" button (U). Repeat the action to cycle through available units:
Beep Function: The beep sound can be switched on or off by pressing the Plus (+) or Minus (-) button for a longer duration.
Display-Keypad Backlight: The display has automatic illumination. The backlight cannot be switched off permanently; it switches on for 30 seconds every time the meter is switched on or any button is pressed.
Single Distance Measuring Mode: Press the "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) once to activate the laser beam and aim at the target. The result appears in the lower (big) string, and the laser switches off. Pressing DIST again switches on the laser for targeting, and the previous result moves to the second string. A new measured result then appears in the "big" lower string, and the laser switches off. Measuring time in single mode is typically < 0.5 seconds for 90% Kodak grey card at distances <15m, under lighting conditions <2000 LUX indoors.
Continuous Distance Measuring Mode: Press and hold the "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) to enter continuous measuring mode. The laser beam remains active, and data is displayed simultaneously. The minimum value is shown in the top string, and the current value in the lower big string. To stop continuous measurement, press any of the "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) or "OFF/Clear button" (C). Measuring time in continuous mode is typically < 0.3 seconds for 90% Kodak grey card at distances <15m, under lighting conditions <2000 LUX indoors.
Addition / Subtraction: To perform addition or subtraction, first switch on the laser for targeting by pressing "ON/Measuring button" (DIST). Then, press the Plus (+) or Minus (-) button one or two times to choose the appropriate action. The sign (+ or -) appears, and the previous result moves to the upper string. Press "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) again to activate the laser for targeting. The measured result appears in the upper string, and the calculated value appears in the lower (big) string. The last step can be cancelled by pressing the "OFF/Clear button" (C) once.
Area Measurement: Press the "Area/Volume/Wall Area button" once. The area symbol appears on the display. Press "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) to take the first length measurement (height), which appears in the upper string. Press "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) again to take the second length measurement (width). The measured result appears in the upper string, and the calculated area appears in the lower (big) string in square meters (ft/in). To cancel the last step, press the "OFF/Clear button" (C) once. To cancel this mode, press the "OFF/Clear button" (C) twice.
Volume Measurement: Press the "Area/Volume/Wall Area button" twice. The volume symbol appears on the display. Press "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) to take the first length measurement (height), which appears in the upper string. Press "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) again to take the second length measurement (width), which also appears in the upper string. Finally, press "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) a third time to take the third length measurement (length). The current measurement (length) appears in the upper string, and the calculated result in cubic meters (ft/in) appears in the lower (big) string. To cancel the last step, press the "OFF/Clear button" (C) once. To cancel this mode, press the "OFF/Clear button" (C) twice.
Simple Pythagoras Measurement: Press the "Indirect Measurement button" once. The Pythagoras symbol appears on the display. Press "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) to measure the first (long) side of the triangle (hypotenuse), which appears in the upper string. Press "ON/Measuring button" (DIST) again to measure the second (short) side of the triangle (cathetus). The previously measured result disappears, the current value (cathetus) appears in the upper string, and the calculated cathetus appears in the lower (big) string. To cancel the last step, press the "OFF/Clear button" (C) once. To cancel this mode, press the "OFF/Clear button" (C) twice.
