Do you have a question about the Connected Inventions Detectify R3.2 and is the answer not in the manual?
Essential safety and usage guidelines before operating the device.
The Connected Detectify R3.2 is an industry-grade passive infrared (PIR) sensor designed for indoor movement detection. It utilizes ultra-low-power two-way radio communications via the Sigfox network technology. The device is battery-powered, and with normal usage under default settings, its batteries are expected to last up to five years.
The Detectify R3.2 operates in two distinct modes: Activity Mode (AM) and Inactivity Mode (IM). In Inactivity Mode, the device remains in a waiting state until movement is detected. Upon detecting movement, the device transitions to Activity Mode. At this point, the Activity Counter and Cumulative Activity Counter are incremented, and an immediate message is sent. While in Activity Mode, the device monitors and counts 3-second time slots during which movement occurs, incrementing the relevant counters.
Once the Activity Reporting Period (ARP) is reached, the device sends a message containing the updated counters and initiates a new Activity Reporting Period. If, while still in Activity Mode, no movement is detected until the Inactivity Detection Period (IDP) is reached, the last movement counters are sent, and the device reverts to Inactivity Mode. Should the Inactivity Reporting Period (IRP) pass without any detected movement, the device sends a periodical inactivity message. This dual-mode operation allows for both immediate alerts regarding movement and periodic, cumulative counting of movements over time.
There are two versions of the device available, distinguished by their detection angles: a 90-degree wide detection angle version, suitable for sensing motion in larger rooms, and a 30-degree narrow detection angle version, designed for more restricted areas such as work desks. This versatility allows the device to be deployed in various indoor environments, from open spaces requiring broad coverage to specific zones needing focused detection.
For installation, the device should be placed in a suitable position to detect movement, with a maximum detection distance of approximately five meters. The device comes with a direct screw plate and an angle joint support for attaching it to a surface. When attaching the screw plate, the device is placed onto the plate so that pins fall through twist-holes on the bottom of the device. It is then twisted clockwise until it locks into place. For work desk installations, it is important to ensure that the hinge of the screw plate points towards any metal support structure. Similarly, when attaching the device to the screw plate, the antenna should point away from any metal structure, and the device should be twisted gently clockwise until it locks. It is crucial to avoid placing the antenna closer than 15cm from any metal objects.
Regarding maintenance and proper usage, it is essential to read the entire manual and all safety instructions before using the device to ensure safe and proper operation. The descriptions in the manual are based on the device's default settings, and the images may differ slightly from the actual product. The contents of the manual are subject to change without prior notice and may vary depending on software provided by service providers or carriers. For the latest version of the manual, users should access the Connected Inventions website. Available features and additional services may also vary by service provider.
Users should be aware that applications on this device might perform differently from comparable applications and may not include all functions available, such as downlink messaging features. Connected Inventions is not liable for performance issues caused by third-party applications or improper installation. The manual should be kept for future reference.
In case of malfunction, the device should be delivered to the supplier, and users should not attempt to open the cover. For transportation, packing material should not be removed, and the device should not be repacked unless necessary. The shipping agent should be contacted before transportation. The device contains a battery with approximately 1.4g of lithium. For disposal, the device should be returned to a disposal station that collects electronic waste and batteries. During operation, it is important to protect the device from moisture, water, and dirt.
When installing, it is critical to avoid placing the device closer than 15cm from any metal or magnetic object, electric cables, electric devices, or selective glass. Such proximity can dramatically reduce radio performance and shorten the device's battery life.
The settings of the device can be updated via downlink messages. The device requests new settings approximately every 24 hours. Users must exercise extreme caution when updating settings, as these changes affect both the subscription and the battery life of the device. Downlink messages are optional; if no downlink message is received, the device will continue to operate with its current settings. The detection interval and the frequency of messages sent when a space is available or occupied can be adjusted through these settings.
By default, if the device has not been configured with a downlink, the activity reporting period is 22 minutes. When a space is occupied, a message is sent after every activity period with updated counter values. When the space becomes available, the status is sent after the Inactivity Detection Period, which has a default value of 15 minutes. After an inactivity message is sent, the device enters Inactivity Mode. Upon detecting activity, a status message is immediately sent with increased counters, and Activity Mode restarts. The default inactivity reporting period is about eight hours. If this period expires without activity, a status message is sent without increased counters, and a new inactivity period begins.
If the power control feature is enabled, the device automatically adjusts its transmit power to an optimal level, conserving battery life and reducing unnecessary interference to the radio network. By default, power control is OFF. Users must ensure that any new settings applied via downlink are valid. If the new settings are invalid or the downlink message is not received, the device will continue to operate with its current settings.
