Overview

This document describes the Cooke & Lewis CLGH3ASS built-in gas hob, a cooking appliance designed for domestic use. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance, emphasizing safety throughout.

Function Description

The CLGH3ASS is a gas hob equipped with four burners, offering four distinct cooking zones. A key safety feature is the Flame Safety Device (FSD), which automatically cuts off the gas supply to a burner if the flame accidentally goes out. The appliance also features auto-ignition for convenient lighting of the burners. For users with different gas supply types, an LPG conversion kit is included, allowing for adaptation to liquid petroleum gas.

The hob's control panel features four knobs, each corresponding to a specific burner. Diagrams on the control panel indicate which knob controls which burner. The burners are categorized by their size and intended use:

  • Auxiliary burner: Suitable for smaller pans with recommended diameters of 12-14 cm.
  • Semi-rapid burner: Designed for medium-sized pans, with recommended diameters of 14-26 cm. There are two semi-rapid burners on this hob.
  • Rapid burner: The largest burner, ideal for larger pans with recommended diameters of 18-26 cm.

Usage Features

Operating the burners involves a straightforward process. To light a burner, the corresponding knob must be turned counter-clockwise to the "MAXIMUM" position, which indicates a large flame. If there's an electric current, the auto-ignition system will spark to light the gas. In the event of a power outage, burners can be lit manually using a piezo electric spark gas ignitor.

For burners equipped with a safety device (thermocouples), once the flame is lit, the knob needs to be held down for approximately 10 seconds. This allows the thermocouple to heat up, ensuring the flame remains lit when the knob is released. If the flame extinguishes, the process should be repeated.

For optimal cooking and energy efficiency, it's recommended to use pans with flat bottoms and lids. Once the boiling point is reached, the knob should be turned to the "MINIMUM" position to maintain the heat.

The appliance is designed for cooking purposes only and should not be used for other applications, such as room heating. Good ventilation is crucial when using a gas cooking appliance, as it produces heat and humidity. Users should ensure natural ventilation openings are clear and consider using a mechanical ventilation device or electric fan, especially during intensive or prolonged use.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential for the longevity and safe operation of the CLGH3ASS gas hob. Before any maintenance work, the electricity supply must always be switched off.

  • General Cleaning: The appliance should be cleaned after each use. Soapy water and a soft cloth are recommended for cleaning both the inner and outer surfaces, as well as accessories. Abrasive powders should never be used, as they can damage the surfaces. Any liquid spills should be immediately wiped away with a cloth.
  • Enamel Parts: To preserve the features of enamel parts, frequent washing with soapy water is advised. Abrasive powders, acidic substances (like vinegar or lemon juice), or alkaline substances should be avoided. Enamel parts should not be washed while still warm.
  • Stainless Steel Parts: These parts should be washed with soapy water and then dried with a soft cloth. Special commercially available products can be used regularly to maintain their shine. Again, abrasive powders are not suitable.
  • Burner Flame Dividers: The flame dividers are not fixed and can be easily removed for cleaning. They should be washed with soapy water, thoroughly dried, and checked to ensure the holes are not blocked before being placed back in their correct position.

The manual also provides guidance on troubleshooting common issues, such as problems with ignition or the appliance not functioning correctly. It advises users to check the mains supply, fuses, and burner cleanliness before contacting customer services.

For safety, users are warned not to store detergents or flammable materials beneath the hob and to avoid leaving hot oils or fats unattended, as they can catch fire. The appliance is not intended to be operated by external timers or remote-control systems.
