Function Description:
The Cookworks Illumination Kettle is an electric appliance used to boil water. It features an illuminated interior that lights up when the kettle is in operation. The kettle is designed for ease of use and safety, with automatic shut-off features and clear water level indicators. It is intended exclusively for domestic households and is not suitable for commercial use.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Rated voltage: 220-240V AC 50/60Hz
- Power consumption: 2520 - 3000W
- Class rating: I (Earthed)
- BS 1362 fuse: 13A
- Capacity: 1.7 litre (MAX)
- Minimum fill level: 0.5 litre (MIN)
Usage Features:
The kettle is designed for straightforward operation:
- Placement: Place the kettle and its stand on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from surfaces that could be damaged by steam.
- Power Connection: Fully unwind the cable from the stand and plug it into a 220V-240V AC, 50Hz earthed socket outlet. Ensure the cable does not dangle over the edge of units.
- Filling: Remove the kettle from the stand. Press the lid button to open the lid. Fill the kettle to the desired level using the markings on the clear water gauge as a guide. Do not fill past the MAX (1.7 litre) or below the MIN (0.5 litre) level.
- Closing: Close the lid fully until it clips into place. Ensure the switch is in the off position (lift switch up) before replacing the kettle on the stand.
- Boiling: Turn the kettle so the spout faces away from you. Switch the kettle on by pressing the switch downward (I). The kettle will start to operate, and lights within the kettle will illuminate.
- Automatic Shut-off: The kettle will automatically switch off when the water boils, and the lights will go off.
- Stopping Operation: To stop or interrupt the boiling process, lift the switch up before removing the kettle from the stand.
Safety Features:
- Automatic Safety Device: The kettle is fitted with a safety device that automatically switches off the heater element if it is inadvertently switched on when empty or if it boils dry. If this occurs, allow the kettle to cool completely (minimum 15 minutes) before refilling with cold water. The kettle will then resume operation.
- Child Safety: Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children less than 8 years old. Children aged 8 years and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, can use the appliance if supervised or instructed on safe use and understanding of hazards. Children should not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance should not be performed by children unless they are over 8 and supervised.
- Overfilling Prevention: Do not overfill the kettle, as boiling water may be ejected during operation.
- Surface Heat: The surfaces of the kettle will become hot during use. Do not touch the body; always carry it by the handle. Note that the kettle and heating element are subject to residual heat after use.
- Lid Safety: Do not remove the lid while water is boiling or when steam is coming out of the kettle.
- Water Immersion: Never immerse the kettle in water. Keep the stand, cable, plug, and outside of the kettle dry and away from areas where splashing is likely.
- Cord Handling: Do not pull on the cable to disconnect from the mains supply.
- Damage: Do not operate the appliance if damaged or after it malfunctions. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a qualified service engineer with an approved part to avoid hazards.
Maintenance Features:
Regular cleaning and descaling are recommended to maintain the kettle's efficiency.
- Daily Cleaning: Switch off, unplug the kettle, and allow it to cool completely.
- Filter Cleaning: Press the lid button to open the lid and unclip the filter. Clean the filter under a running tap while gently brushing with a soft nylon brush to remove scale. (Refer to Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 3 in the manual for filter removal/cleaning illustration).
- Descaling: For more thorough descaling, use a proprietary descaler suitable for kettles, following the instructions on the pack. Alternatively, fill the kettle with water and add the juice of one lemon. Boil the kettle and allow it to stand for 15 minutes. Repeat this step two further times before discarding the solution. After descaling, fill the kettle to the maximum level, bring to the boil, and then discard the water.
- Refitting Filter: Support the filter with the fingers and fit the bottom of the filter into the clip at the base of the spout. Clip the top of the filter under the top lip of the spout.
- External Cleaning: Wipe external surfaces with a soft damp cloth; do not use detergents or abrasives as these may scratch the surface.
First-time Use:
Before using the kettle for the first time, fill it to the maximum level, bring it to the boil, and then discard the water. Repeat this step two further times.
