If the log's hardness or diameter is too great, decrease its diameter or length before attempting to split it. Also, check the splitter itself; if it's blunt or damaged, sharpen it according to the maintenance instructions. Finally, inspect for oil leakage and have a qualified technician repair any leaks, topping up the oil as needed. A wrongly adjusted pressure regulator can also be the cause and should be inspected and repaired by a qualified technician with access to testing equipment.
