Overview

This document provides assembly, usage, and maintenance instructions for a gas fire pit, model TCS46GL.

Function Description:

The TCS46GL is an outdoor gas fire pit designed to provide warmth and ambiance. It utilizes liquid propane (LP) gas as fuel and features a burner system that produces a flame. The device is intended for outdoor use only and should not be installed in or on recreational vehicles and/or boats. It includes a control knob for adjusting the flame intensity and an igniter for easy startup. The design incorporates a table-top surface around the fire pit, making it a functional piece of outdoor furniture. A lava rock set is included to enhance the visual appeal of the flame. The unit is designed to accommodate a standard 20 lb LP gas tank, which is stored within the unit's enclosure.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: TCS46GL
  • Fuel Type: Liquid Propane (LP)
  • Maximum Inlet Pressure: 250 psig
  • Manifold Pressure (Minimum/Maximum): 11 inches W.C.
  • Gas Rating: 37,000 BTU/hr
  • Cylinder Compatibility: Standard 20 lb LP gas cylinder (not included). The cylinder dimensions should be 12 inches in diameter and 18 inches high, with a capacity of 20lbs of propane.
  • Certification: CSA certified, indicating compliance with safety standards for gas-fired appliances.
  • Construction Materials: The fire pit features a metal frame and table top, with an enclosed space for the LP tank.
  • Safety Features: Includes a thermocouple to detect flame presence and automatically shut off gas flow if the flame extinguishes. The unit is designed with a burner system that requires a minimum of 2 inches clearance between the hose and the burner system.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The fire pit requires assembly, with detailed step-by-step instructions provided, including illustrations. Assembly involves attaching the frame components, installing the table top, burner system, and igniter valve, and connecting the fuel supply hose.
  • Ignition: To light the fire pit, turn the control knob to the "T" shaped switch in and rotate counterclockwise to the "LOW" position. Push and hold the igniter button to spark and light the burner. Continue holding the control knob for 5 seconds after ignition to allow the thermocouple to heat up.
  • Flame Adjustment: The flame intensity can be adjusted by rotating the control knob between the "LOW" and "HIGH" positions.
  • Shut-off: To turn off the fire pit, rotate the control knob clockwise to the "OFF" position.
  • LP Tank Connection: The LP tank connects to the fuel supply hose via a rotating clockwise connection. The tank is stored within the fire pit's enclosure and secured by a tank fastener.
  • LP Tank Removal: To remove the tank, first close the valve tightly, then disconnect the fuel supply hose from the igniter valve and the tank by rotating counterclockwise. The tank can then be removed from the tank support assembly.
  • Outdoor Use Only: This device is strictly for outdoor use in a well-ventilated area. It must not be used in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.
  • Clearances: Maintain proper clearances from combustible materials. The fire pit should be placed on a hard, flat, non-combustible surface.
  • Lava Rocks: Lava rocks are provided to be placed over the burner system to enhance the flame's appearance.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Do not use aerosol polish or any other flammable material to clean the fire pit.
    • Inspect and clean the burner regularly. Use a wire brush to clean the burner surface. A straightened paper clip is useful to remove debris or rust from the small burner ports.
    • Wash painted surfaces with mild soap and water, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely. Do not use abrasive cleaners or any other solvents on the frame parts.
  • Periodic Checks: Regular periodic checks are required to ensure that all connections are secured.
  • Hose Inspection: Inspect the fuel supply hose before each use of the appliance. If there is excessive abrasion, wear, cuts, or damage, the hose must be replaced prior to use.
  • Burner Inspection: The burner must be inspected before each use. If any part of the burner is damaged, it must be replaced prior to use.
  • Spider/Insect Control: The burner system should be inspected for spider webs or insect nests, as these can obstruct gas flow and cause a flashback fire.
  • LP Tank Maintenance: Always disconnect the LP gas tank first and store it safely outside. Ensure the gas regulator hose assembly is well-ventilated and not obstructed.
  • Professional Servicing: Installation and repair should be done by a qualified service person. Frequent cleaning is required. It is imperative that the control compartment, burners, and circulating air passageways of the appliance be kept clean at all times.
  • Rust Prevention: If rust appears on the lava rocks, it is a normal occurrence and does not affect the fire pit's function.
  • Soot Prevention: Yellow flames or heavy black soot indicate incomplete combustion. Adjust the air shutter or consult a qualified service technician if persistent.
  • Storage: When storing the fire pit, ensure the LP tank is disconnected and stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area. The fire pit should be covered to protect it from the elements.
