Overview

The BLACKMAX® TR700 Series is a line of premium refrigerant recovery machines designed for efficient and reliable refrigerant recovery. These machines are intended for use by qualified personnel only and are suitable for both residential and commercial refrigeration systems.

Function Description

The TR700 Series machines are designed to recover refrigerants from various systems. They feature a two-cylinder oil-less reciprocating compressor and twin fans, which contribute to high airflow and efficient condensing capability. This design maximizes speed in both direct liquid and direct vapor recovery. The machines are equipped with a thermal overload protection system and offer selectable manual or automatic shut-off modes. They include indicator lights for high pressure or low pressure status, and feature suction and discharge shut-off valves for ease of service.

Important Technical Specifications

The TR700 Series includes several models (TR700, TR700C, TR700JUK, TR700E, TR700J, TR700S), each with slightly different voltage specifications. The TR700 and TR700C models operate on 115V (60 Hz), while the TR700JUK, TR700E, TR700J, and TR700S models support 220-240V (50/60Hz) or 100V (50/60Hz). All models have an overload protection of 15 Amp and a power consumption of 850 Watts. The motor size across all models is 2/3 HP, utilizing a two-cylinder, oil-less reciprocating compressor.

Pressure and Discharge Gauges:

  • Suction Pressure Gauge: Ranges from -30" Hg to 350 psig, -76 cm Hg to 35 kg/cm, -0.1 to 3.5 MPa, or 100 kPa to 3450 kPa depending on the model and unit of measurement.
  • Discharge Pressure Gauge: Ranges from 0 to 800 psig, 0 to 55 kg/cm, 0 to 5.5 MPa, or 0 to 5500 kPa.
  • High Pressure Shut-Off: Set at 550 psig (38 bar) or 450 psig (31 bar) depending on the model.

Recovery Rates:

  • Maximum Flow Rate @ 60 Hz (Reduce 15% For 50 Hz):
    • Direct Vapor: 2.1 lb/min (57 kg/hr)
    • Direct Liquid: 11 lb/min (293 kg/hr)
    • Push-Pull Liquid: 860 lb/min (830 kg/hr)

Refrigerants: The TR700 Series is compatible with a wide range of refrigerants including R-12, R-22, R-134a, R-401A/B/C, R-402A/B, R-404A, R-406A, R-407A/B/C/D/E/F, R408A, R-409A, R-410A, R-411A/B, R-412A, R-500, R-502, R-507.

Operating Temperature Range: 32°F to 120°F (0°C to 49°C).

Physical Specifications:

  • Dimensions (W x L x H): 9.75" x 21" x 14.0" (Cm: 24.7x 53.3x 35.6).
  • Weight: 32 Lbs (14.5 kg).
  • Power Cord Length: 6 Ft. (1.82 m) Detachable.

The machines feature a durable, double-wall, high-density polyethylene plastic case with an integrated carrying handle, and a powder-coated, internal aluminum chassis for long life. They are equipped with 2" wide, adjustable shoulder pads/straps and 4 skid resistant rubber feet.

Usage Features

The TR700 Series is designed for ease of use and maximum recovery rates.

Direct Vapor or Liquid Recovery: To maximize recovery rates, it is recommended to use the shortest length of 3/8" (inside) diameter refrigeration hose on the suction side, ensure the refrigerant is clean (remove all suction side filters, screens, etc.), remove all Schrader type valve cores and any valve depressors from hoses and service valves, use an evacuated DOT recovery tank, and if unit trips off on high pressure, change the recovery cylinder. When recovering large amounts of R410A or if recovering under very high ambient temperature, the CPS MT69 Molecular Transformer is suggested.

The recovery process involves connecting the unit as shown in Diagram 1 (for Direct Vapor or Liquid Recovery). The vapor valve on the recovery tank should be open, and the OUT valve on the unit should be open. The unit can be set to either Auto-Manual or Manual switch. When the unit starts, the IN valve should be open to start refrigerant flow. The recovery tank should be monitored for overfill. If the unit begins to make a slugging or hammering noise, the IN valve should be closed until the noise subsides. In AUTO position, the unit will shut off when suction pressure falls to 10" Hg vac, and the RED LP Light will energize. In MANUAL position, the unit will run continuously. To reduce residual refrigerants, open IN and OUT valves, select AUTO or Auto-Manual Switch, disconnect service hose(s) from equipment being serviced, reconnect this hose to the Recovery Tank Vapor Port, set Main Switch to ON, and slowly open Recovery Tank Vapor Port so IN Gauge reads 60-70 PSIG. Run for 30 seconds. Close IN Valve. The unit will automatically shut off when vacuum is reached. The RED LP Light will energize.

Push-Pull Liquid Recovery: For push-pull liquid recovery, similar recommendations apply to maximize recovery rates, including using the shortest 3/8" (inside) diameter refrigeration hose on the suction side, using 3/8" (inside) diameter refrigerant hoses from the system liquid service valve to the liquid port on the tank, ensuring the refrigerant is clean, removing all suction side filters, screens, etc., removing all Schrader type valve cores and any valve depressors from the hoses and service valves, and using a 90 lb DOT recovery tank or larger to minimize tank change over.

The connection for push-pull liquid recovery is shown in Diagram 2. The unit should be connected as shown, and the liquid and vapor valves on the recovery tank should be open. The OUT valve on the unit should be open. The unit can be set to Auto-Manual or Manual switch. When the unit starts, the IN valve should be open to start refrigerant flow. The weight scale should be monitored for increase of weight in the Recovery Tank, or view sight glass for liquid refrigerant flow. It is crucial not to overfill the Recovery Tank. Once the weight gain subsides or liquid refrigerant is no longer present in the sight glass, the Recovery Tank Vapor Valve should be closed. The Main Power Switch should be set to OFF once the IN Gauge pulls in to a vacuum.

Maintenance Features

Routine maintenance is essential for the longevity and optimal performance of the TR700 Series machines.

Filter Maintenance: The TR700 is equipped with a 100-mesh screen filter that should be checked periodically. A partially clogged filter will slow down the recovery rate. To replace the filter cartridge:

  1. Use a 5/8" socket or boxed end wrench to loosen the suction port as shown in Figure 1.
  2. Once loose, remove the suction port-filter cartridge as shown in Figure 2.
  3. Either clean the current cartridge or replace with a new cartridge.
  4. Inspect the O-ring. Re-lubricate with compressor oil or an equivalent.
  5. Place the filter cartridge back into the suction port fitting.
  6. Hand tighten this assembly back onto the TR700 unit.
  7. Use a 5/8" socket or boxed end wrench to tighten 1/8 of a turn. Do not over tighten, damage to the O-ring may occur.
  8. Check the connection for leaks.

Warranty and Contact Information: CPS Products, Inc. guarantees that all products are free of manufacturing and material defects to the original owner for three years from the date of purchase. If the equipment should fail during the guarantee period, it will be repaired or replaced (at their option) at no charge. This guarantee does not apply to equipment that has been altered, misused, or solely in need of field service maintenance. All repaired equipment will carry an independent 90-day warranty.
