HY-SERIES HYDRAULIC PINCH OFF TOOL
WITH ELECTRIC / HYDRAULIC PUMP
The HY-Seri
es Hydraulic / Electric Pinch-Off Tools are equipped with the modified pump configuration
shown above. (All Handsets are also available utilizing Hydraulic / Pneumatic pumps). The system
comes complete with Hydraulic / Electric pump, hydraulic pressure gauge, 6 ft. hydraulic hose with
quick-disconnects, footswitch control. The pump is also equipped with a manual toggle style switch for
manual operation.
The HY-series tools are designed to pinch-off and hermetically seal (cold weld) OFHC copper tubing, as
well as aluminum and high purity nickel. If attempting to pinch-off and seal any other tubing materials,
contact our office to discuss your application.
When considering the use of this tool for your application, please provide us with samples of the tubing
you wish to process. We will test and confirm the tubes can be properly sealed using this tool prior to
processing your order request. All tools and pumps are pre-calibrated by CPS before shipping.

For other tubing materials, users are advised to contact the manufacturer for application-specific discussions. Function Description:

Important Technical Specifications:

The HY-Series Pinch-Off Tools are available in several models, each tailored for specific tubing diameters:

  • HY-250-E: For OFHC copper tubing with a diameter of 0.187" - 0.250".
  • HY-500-E: For OFHC copper tubing with a diameter of 0.250" - 0.500".
  • HY-750-E: For OFHC copper tubing with a diameter of 0.500" - 0.750".
  • HY-1.0-E: For OFHC copper tubing with a diameter of 0.750" - 1.0".

The hydraulic/electric pumps supplied with these tools are capable of generating up to 10,000 psi hydraulic pressure. However, the tools operate at much lower pressure settings to prevent damage to the handset or jaw breakage. The manufacturer pre-calibrates the pump to a safe operating pressure that matches the tubing being processed, based on customer-provided samples. This pre-calibration is crucial for ensuring optimal tool performance and preventing potential damage.

Usage Features:

The HY-Series tool is designed for ease of use and precise control.

  • System Components: The complete system includes the hydraulic/electric pump, hydraulic pressure gauge, 6 ft. hydraulic hose with quick-disconnects, and footswitch control. Handsets are also available for use with hydraulic/pneumatic pumps.
  • Operation Control: Users can operate the tool via a footswitch for hands-free control or a manual toggle switch on the pump for manual operation.
  • Tubing Compatibility: Primarily designed for OFHC copper, aluminum, and high purity nickel tubing. For other materials, consultation with the manufacturer is required.
  • Pre-Shipment Testing: Before shipping, the manufacturer requests samples of the tubing to be processed. This allows for testing and confirmation that the tubes can be properly sealed, and for the pump to be calibrated to the appropriate operating pressure. This step is critical for guaranteeing tool performance and preventing damage. If a customer waives the tube sample request, the manufacturer cannot guarantee tool performance, and all warranties will be void if tubing is not tested prior to shipping.
  • Pre-Calibrated: All tools and pumps are pre-calibrated by CPS before shipping to ensure readiness for immediate use within specified parameters.

Maintenance Features:

Maintaining the correct pump pressure is essential for the longevity and effective operation of the HY-Series tool.

  • Pressure Adjustment: Should it become necessary to change or alter the pump pressure, users are advised to contact CPS for pump setting recommendations. The process involves:
    1. Loosening the set screw on the cap.
    2. Removing the cap.
    3. Loosening the large knurled lock nut.
  • Increasing Pressure: To increase pump pressure, turn the adjustment screw clockwise while the pump is activated. Users must carefully watch the pressure gauge and not exceed 4000 psi without contacting CPS for recommendations.
  • Reducing Pressure: To reduce pump pressure, turn the adjustment screw counter-clockwise when the pump is NOT activated. Small adjustments should be made, followed by activating the pump and reading the gauge to check the new pressure.
  • Securing Settings: Once the desired pressure setting is reached, tighten the knurled lock nut and replace the protective cap.
  • Documentation: Users should refer to the pump manufacturer's Operating Instruction manual for more detailed maintenance and operational information.
  • Warranty: The pumps are warranted by the manufacturer.
