Overview

The Crescendo Symphony series comprises high-performance digital amplifiers designed for mobile audio systems. This owner's manual covers the S1-v2, S1 Plus, S2, S4, and S6 models, providing essential information for installation, operation, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Crescendo Symphony amplifiers are designed to enhance the audio experience in vehicles by providing powerful and clear sound. They are digital amplifiers, which typically means they offer high efficiency and a compact design. The series includes monoblock amplifiers (S1-v2, S1 Plus) primarily for subwoofers and multi-channel amplifiers (S2, S4, S6) for full-range speakers or a combination of speakers and subwoofers.

Important Technical Specifications:

General:

  • Working Battery Voltage: All Symphony amplifiers operate within a range of 8.5 to 16 Volts.
  • Power and Ground Connections: All models require 4 gauge power and ground wire for optimal performance. High-quality pure copper wire is recommended.
  • Remote Turn-On: A 16 AWG (or larger) wire is needed for the remote turn-on lead, connecting to a switched +12V source from the head unit, toggle switch, relay, or power antenna trigger cable.
  • Fusing: Symphony amplifiers are not equipped with internal fuses. External fuses are mandatory and should be installed within 18 inches of the positive battery terminal to protect the vehicle and audio system from short circuits.

S1-v2 & S1 Plus (Monoblock Amplifiers):

  • Minimum Impedance: 1 ohm.
  • External Fuse Ratings:
    • S1-v2: 150A
    • S1 Plus: 300A
  • Inputs: RCA inputs for high-quality signal connection.
  • Outputs: RCA output for connecting to another amplifier.
  • Controls:
    • Gain (6V - 0.2V): Adjusts the amplifier's operating level to match the head unit's output.
    • Subsonic Filter (10Hz - 50Hz): A high-pass filter to eliminate extreme low frequencies from speaker outputs.
    • Low Pass Filter (35Hz - 250Hz): Tunes the amplifier's response at higher bass frequencies for seamless integration with midbass.
    • Bass Boost (0 - 9dB): Provides up to 9dB of boost centered at 45Hz.
  • Remote Control: Allows level adjustment from the driver's seat.
  • Indicators: Power LED (illuminates when operating correctly) and Protect LED (illuminates during malfunction or protection mode).
  • Speaker Connection: Single speaker terminal block.

S2, S4 & S6 (Multi-Channel Amplifiers):

  • Minimum Impedance: 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm bridged.
  • External Fuse Ratings:
    • S2: 50A
    • S4: 60A
    • S6: 130A
  • Inputs: RCA inputs for preamp signal cables from the source or head unit.
  • Controls:
    • Gain (6V - 0.2V): Matches the output voltage of the head unit's RCA line-outs to the amplifier's input.
    • High Pass Filter (20Hz - 8KHz): Controls the high-pass frequency for speaker outputs. Features x1 (20Hz-800Hz) and x10 (200Hz-8KHz) multiply settings and an ON/OFF switch.
    • Low Pass Filter (50Hz - 8KHz): Controls the low-pass frequency for speaker outputs. Features x1 (50Hz-800Hz) and x10 (500Hz-8KHz) multiply settings and an ON/OFF switch.
    • Mode (2CH / 4CH / 6CH - specific to S6):
      • 2CH mode: Activates all speaker outputs from a single pair of RCA inputs (CH1&2).
      • 4CH mode: For 2 pairs of RCA inputs and standard speaker outputs.
      • 6CH mode (S6 only): For 3 pairs of RCA inputs and standard speaker outputs.
  • Remote Control: Allows level adjustment from the driver's seat.
  • Indicators: Power LED (blue-lit for correct operation), Protect LED (red-lit for general malfunction, faulty connection, or thermal protection), and Clip LED (lights up when input signal is close to clipping level; at full clip, the Protect LED will also light up).
  • Speaker Connection: Multiple speaker terminal blocks for full-range speakers, with options for stereo and bridged configurations.

Usage Features:

  • Installation Flexibility: The compact design allows for mounting under seats or in the trunk.
  • Air Circulation: Crucial for heat dissipation; avoid covering the amplifier with carpets or enclosing it behind trim panels.
  • Secure Mounting: Amplifiers should be mounted to a solid surface away from vibration due to their weight.
  • Wiring Diagrams: Detailed diagrams are provided for speaker connections for each model, including various impedance configurations (e.g., 1 ohm for S1-v2/S1 Plus, 2 ohm stereo/4 ohm bridged for S2/S4/S6).
  • Remote Level Control: Optional remote control for convenient adjustment of amplifier level from the driver's seat.

Maintenance Features:

Troubleshooting (NO SOUND / NO OUTPUT):

  • Connections: Check all connections, cable routing, shorts, and voltages.
  • Fuses: Replace blown external fuses with new ones of the correct rating.
  • Speakers: Test speakers by connecting them to another amplifier to ensure they are functioning correctly.

Troubleshooting (PROTECTION):

  • Impedance: Verify that the speaker impedance meets the minimum requirements (1 ohm for S1-v2/S1 Plus, 2 ohm stereo/4 ohm bridged for S2/S4/S6).
  • Overheating: If the amplifier shuts down due to heat, allow it to cool down and ensure better airflow around the unit.
  • Voltage: Confirm that the working voltage is within the 8.5V to 16V range.
  • Input Signals: For S2, S4, and S6, input signals over 4V can cause protection mode. Check input signal levels.

Troubleshooting (DISTORTION & NOISE):

  • Input Level: Readjust input level and check speaker quality. Replace poor quality speakers with good ones.
  • Ground Contact: Check the ground contact for amplifiers and the head unit; all grounds should be common.
  • RCA Cables: Inspect RCA cables for nicks or poor routing. Replace or re-route as needed.
  • Engine Noise: Often caused by poor grounding of amplifiers, head unit, other components, battery, or alternator. Check all grounding connections.

Troubleshooting (POOR BASS RESPONSE):

  • Speaker Cables and Polarity: Check speaker cable connections and ensure correct polarity.

Warranty:

  • Duration: 1-year limited warranty from the date of purchase.
  • Coverage: Covers manufacturing defects. Warranty-authorized amplifiers will be replaced or repaired.
  • Exclusions: Does not cover accidental damage, improper installation/wiring, misuse, abuse, car accidents, natural disasters, or third-party modifications.
  • Transferability: Warranty is non-transferable.
  • Returns: All warranty returns must be sent to Crescendo Audio or their repair facility. Proper packaging (factory box or equivalent) is required to prevent damage during shipping.
  • Contact: For warranty inquiries or RMA requests, contact service@crescendoaudio.com or visit www.crescendoaudio.com. Phone support is available Monday-Friday at (941) 257 4767.
