Before
installing
new
filter,
apply
a
coating
of
clean
oil
on
the
filter
gasket.
Thread
filter
on
by
hand
until
gasket
seats
in
oil
filter
adapter.
Tighten
1/2
to
3/4
turn
more.
Install
drain
plug
in
drain
hose
and
place
hose
into
retaining
clamp
on
frame.
Bend
clamp
over
hose
as
shown
in
Figure
33.
FILLING
THE
CRANKCASE
A
CAUTION
Never
overfill
the
engine
crankcase.
Engine
may
overheat
and/or
damage
may
result
if
the
crankcase
is
below
the
"LOW"
mark
or
over
the
"FULL"
mark.
NOTE
For
best
results,
fill
to
"FULL"
mark
on
dip¬
stick
as
opposed
to
adding
a
given
quantity
of
oil.
Always
check
level
on
dipstick
before
adding
oil.
To
fill
the
crankcase
with
oil,
make
sure
the
tractor
is
on
a
level
surface.
Clean
the
area
around
the
oil
filler
cap
and
dipstick
to
prevent
debris
from
entering
the
crankcase.
Refer
to
Figure
35
and
remove
the
oil
filler
cap
and
slowly
pour
oil
(approximately
4
pints)
into
valve
cover
until
oil
level
reads
"FULL"
on
dipstick.
Replace
the
oil
filler
cap
and
start
engine.
After
30
seconds,
stop
engine,
check
oil
level
and
add
if
necessary.
Check
for
leaks
around
oil
filter
and
at
drain
plug.

NOTE
Clean
the
outside
area
before
removing
the
filter
to
keep
dirt
from
getting
into
the
transmission
case.
If
a
mower
is
mounted
on
the
tractor,
the
mower
must
be
removed
to
facilitate
removal
of
the
filter.

(1863
ONLY)
Remove
the
drain
plug
and
allow
the
hydraulic
fluid
to
drain
into
a
clean
container
having
a
capacity
of
more
than
seven
quarts.
Replace
the
drain
plug.
