9 . (Full) cArbon Forks
3.—(full) carbon fork s
The (full) carbon fork s which are
installed as well as carbon fork s with a
upper shaf t part made out of aluminium
are fork s with a tapered steerer. This
has an external di amet er of 1.5“ in the
area of the lower cont rol bearin g an d
tapers towards the top to the cl amp -
ing ar ea of the handlebar stem to 1 1/8“.
Only handlebar stems and headsets
compat ible with this shaft diam eter may
be us ed and which ar e approved by the
bike manufacturer.
• If the headset bearing lower cone
ring is driven into the bearing seat
with massive force there is a dan-
ger of damaging the fork s. Fitting
a headset must be carried out by
a specialist technician. The shaft
tube external diameter in the vicin-
ity of the stem is designed fo r fr ont
ex tensions with a cl amp diam eter
of 1 1/8”. Only the handleb ar stems
with corresponding internal dimen-
sions and cl eanly finished interior
surfac es may be us ed. The fitted
stem may project no more than a
maximum of 2 mmabove the edge
of the shaft tube end.
The front brake is fitted to the fork s
using the special screws supplied by
the manufacturer with an M6 thread
with an internal hexagon (Allen screw®)
head. (SW 5 mm ). The external di amet er
of the nu ts must not exceed 8 mm and
the maximum torque of the nuts is 8Nm
(min. 7Nm )
• For carbon fork s with a upper shaft
part made out of alum inium so-
called “ahead claw s” be driven in
to adjust the control bearing. Un-
der no circumstances may this be
done for a (full) carbon fork . The
supplied insert for internal cl amp-
ing should always be used to do
that or the screw insert for mo d-
els with an int ernal thread used
in the carbon shaft. Use of the
“ahe ad claw s” (full) carbon fo rk s
can cause considerable damage
to the shaft tube and dangerous
total failure of the assembly may
even oc cur! The shaft length must
only be adjusted or modified by a
specialist technician.
Ideally a metal saw with low ab rasion
rate or a metal circular saw with a
diamond saw bl ade and water coolin g
should be used. In the event of dry
trimming ade quat e protection from dust
inhal at ion produced should be ensured.
Inhal at ion protection with a fine dust
filter an d safety gl asses ar e recom-
mended.
4.— Care instructions
Your carbon frame and your (full) carbon
fork s should be cleaned regularly. Or di-
nary paint care products with or without
silicon additive and cold to lukewarm
water to which may be added ordin ar y
detergent may be used. To be avoi ded
are solvents of any description, al co-
hol s (e.g. ethanol or isopropanol), hot
water with alkaline additives or cleaning
with steam jets and pressure washers.
