Qualit y As surance and rigidity
testing
• Every carbon frame ready for de-
livery an d every set of (full) carbon
fork s are subjected to a rigidity
test. For each frame height and
each set of fork s a rigidity toler-
ance range is defined in pr elimi-
nary testing. Only frames and fork s
which come within this toleranc e
range leave the fact ory.
The rigidity test is us ed as a Quality
Assurance measure an d is performed
on the company’s own test rig. To do
this the frame to be measured is fixed
in plac e at the rear assembly and the
steering tu be. Then the gear crank area
is defl ect ed to one side using a defined
force deli vered by a pneumatic cylinder.
As a second step rigidity measurement
of the steering pipe occur s through tar-
geted torsion of the steering head to
the frame. The rigidity valu es aris e from
the ratio of the appl ied fo rce and the
resulting defl ect ion of the frame ar ea
and ar e documented on the test sticker
in the operating instructions enclosed.
