This document is an instruction and recipe booklet for the Cuisinart CMW-70 Microwave Oven.
Function Description
The Cuisinart CMW-70 Microwave Oven is designed for heating and cooking food using microwave energy. It offers various cooking options, including manual cooking, express cook, time defrost, weight defrost, and several preprogrammed Auto Cook functions for popular foods.
Manual Cook: Users can manually program desired cooking time (up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds) and power level (from 0% to 100%).
Express Cook: This feature provides a shortcut for quick cooking at 100% power. Users can select cooking times from 1 to 6 minutes directly or add 30-second increments using the START +30SEC button.
Time Defrost: Allows defrosting by time, with a default power level of 3 (30%). The power level can be adjusted.
Weight Defrost: Defrosts food based on its weight, ranging from 4 to 100 oz. The oven automatically calculates the defrost time.
Auto Cook: Preprogrammed functions for specific foods like Soften/Melt (butter, chocolate), Popcorn (personal size, regular size), Pizza, Potato, Frozen Veggie, Beverage, and Reheat (dinner plate/leftovers). These functions use professionally recommended power levels and cooking times.
Two-Stage Cooking: This function allows programming the oven to automatically switch from one cooking stage to a second stage with different cooking times and power levels.
Memory Function: Users can save up to three frequently used cooking procedures (one or two stages) for quick access. Auto Cook functions cannot be saved to memory.
Child Lock: A safety feature that deactivates or locks the control panel to prevent unwanted oven operation.
Clock/Timer: The oven features a 12-hour clock display and a kitchen timer function (up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds).
Stop Pause/Cancel: This button allows users to stop the oven during operation, cancel a program, or start over if a mistake is made during programming.

Usage Features
Installation:
The oven must be placed on a level surface with minimum clearances: 12 inches (30 cm) above the oven and at least 3 inches (8 cm) between the oven and any adjacent walls. One side must remain open. The bottom oven legs and any protective film must be removed. The mica cover MicroGuide, which shields and protects wave action, should not be removed. The oven must be plugged into a standard, properly grounded household outlet with matching voltage and frequency.
Turntable Installation:
The turntable ring assembly is placed on the oven floor, centered over the turntable shaft. The glass tray is then placed into the oven, fitting its hub onto the turntable shaft. The glass tray must be properly connected to the turntable ring before operation and should never be used upside down. Food must always be placed on the glass tray for cooking.
Safety Precautions:
- Microwave Energy Exposure: Do not operate the oven with the door open or if safety interlocks are broken. Do not place objects between the door and oven front face, or allow residue to accumulate on sealing surfaces. Do not operate if damaged.
- Grounding: The appliance must be properly grounded to reduce the risk of electric shock.
- Food Safety: Avoid heating whole eggs and sealed containers (e.g., closed glass jars) as they can explode. Do not deep-fry or attempt home canning. Do not heat baby bottles or baby food directly in the microwave due to uneven heating/hotspots.
- Overheating Liquids: Liquids like water, coffee, or tea can overheat beyond boiling point without appearing to boil (delayed eruptive boiling). Stir liquids before and halfway through heating, do not overheat, and use wide-mouth containers. Allow containers to stand for at least 20 seconds after heating.
- Fire Risk: Do not overcook food. Remove wire twist-ties from bags. If materials ignite, keep the door closed, turn off the oven, and disconnect power. Do not use the interior for storage.
- Materials: Refer to the provided charts for microwave-safe and microwave-avoided materials. Arcing can occur with certain metals and damage the oven or cause fire. Use microwave-safe plastics carefully.
- Operation: Do not operate the microwave oven when empty, as this can cause fire, charring, or sparking. Do not cook bacon directly on the turntable.
- Pacemakers: Most pacemakers are shielded, but individuals with pacemakers may consult their physicians.
- Appliance Garage: Do not operate or store the appliance in an appliance garage or under a wall cabinet without unplugging it, to avoid fire risk.
Maintenance Features
Cleaning & Care:
- General: Unplug the cord before cleaning. Regular cleaning prevents grease build-up.
- Inside the Unit: Wipe with a solution of baking soda and water to keep fresh. Remove greasy spatters with a sudsy cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or sharp utensils. Clean door surfaces with mild, nonabrasive soap or detergent. For greasy stains, heat 1 cup of water with 2 tablespoons lemon juice or baking soda in the microwave, let it steam, then wipe with paper towels or a damp cloth.
- Outside the Unit: Wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Be careful with cleaning sprays, large amounts of soap/water, abrasives, or sharp objects, as they can damage the unit. Some paper towels may scratch the control panel.
- Odor Removal: Select Power Level 0 (PL0) to operate the oven with the fan only, without power, to remove unwanted odors.
Servicing:
Any servicing other than cleaning should be performed by an authorized service representative. Do not attempt to adjust or repair the oven yourself.
Troubleshooting Guide:
The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as the oven not starting, arcing/sparking, unevenly cooked foods, overcooked foods, undercooked foods, and improper defrosting, along with possible causes and remedies.
