Overview

This document is the owner's manual for the Cuisinart Stainless Steel 5 Burner Gas Grill, Model GAS2556AF, providing operating instructions and important safety warnings.

Function Description

The Cuisinart GAS2556AF is a stainless steel 5-burner gas grill designed for outdoor cooking. It is equipped with dual fuel valves, allowing for easy conversion from LP (propane) gas to natural gas with the purchase and installation of a Cuisinart conversion kit. The grill features main burners for general grilling and a side burner for preparing side dishes or warming sauces. A steel griddle is included for cooking breakfast foods, grilled cheese, vegetables, and other items not typically cooked on open grates. The grill is designed for vapor withdrawal from the LP cylinder and includes a Type 1 cylinder valve with an over-filling prevention device (OPD) for safety.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Burners: 5 main burners plus a side burner.
  • Fuel Type: Designed for LP (propane) gas, convertible to natural gas with a Cuisinart conversion kit.
  • LP Cylinder Compatibility: Requires a 20 lb. (9.1 kg) LP gas cylinder, 12" (30.5 cm) diameter x 18” (45.7 cm) tall, with a Type 1 cylinder valve and an over-filling prevention device (OPD). Compatible with Worthington, Manchester, or SMPC brand cylinders, and other DOT cylinders with similar dimensions.
  • Regulator: Supplied pressure regulator/hose assembly (Part No 2556-155-7600-0) operates at a maximum output pressure of 11 inches of water column (2.74 kPa).
  • Clearance: Minimum clearance of 36 inches (91 cm) from all sides and back of the grill, deck railings, walls, or other combustible material.
  • Side Burner Weight Limit: Do not place more than 15 pounds on the side burner.
  • Side Burner Pot Size: Use a 10" diameter pot or smaller with no extended handle.
  • Griddle Material: Steel, pre-seasoned to prevent rust.
  • Rotisserie: Pre-drilled for a rotisserie (sold separately). If using an AC current rotisserie, it must be electrically grounded with a three-pronged plug.

Usage Features

  • Safety First: Emphasizes reading and following all warnings and instructions, especially regarding gas leaks, fire prevention, and proper cylinder handling.
  • Pre-Start Check List: A comprehensive list of safety steps to perform before each use, including checking gas supply hose, leak testing, ensuring proper grounding of electrical cords, and positioning the grill in a well-ventilated area.
  • Lighting Instructions: Detailed steps for lighting both main and side burners using the igniter, and match lighting procedures as an alternative. The lid must be open when lighting.
  • Regulator Resetting Procedure: Instructions for "Mini Reset" and "Full Reset" if the flow limiting device is activated, causing insufficient heat.
  • Preheating: Recommended to preheat the grill for 5-10 minutes on "HIGH" with the lid closed before each use to sear food sugars.
  • Flare-Up Control: Provides guidance on minimizing and handling flare-ups and grease fires, including trimming excess fat, cooking high-fat meats on low settings or indirectly, and cleaning the grill frequently. Water should not be used on grease fires.
  • Indirect Cooking: Explains how to cook food without direct heat, searing on one side and slow cooking on an unlit side.
  • Side Burner Use: Can be used for side dishes, with adjustable flame from high to low.
  • Steel Griddle Use: Placed on cooking grates with the grease reservoir at the back. Preheat for 10-15 minutes. Grease and food particles can be pushed into the reservoir.
  • Turning Off the Grill: Instructions to turn off the cylinder valve first, then all burner control knobs to "OFF".
  • Grill Cooking Tips: Includes advice on food safety, such as washing hands and utensils, avoiding cross-contamination, and recommended minimum internal temperatures for various meats and vegetables (Chops, Ground Meat, Pork, Poultry, Roasts, Seafood).

Maintenance Features

  • Leak Testing: Critical procedure to be performed before first use, after each tank refill, when the grill has been moved, and at least once a year or after 60 days of disuse. Involves applying a soapy water mixture to all gas connections and checking for bubbles.
  • Cleaning Interior of Grill: Recommends scrubbing grates with a wire bristle brush and turning burners to HIGH for 5 minutes after cooking. After cooling, remove grates and heat tents to brush out ash and grease from the firebox. Grease cup should be cleaned and replaced.
  • Cleaning Interior of Grill Lid: Clean with a scrub brush and baking soda/water solution to remove smoke accumulation and flaking.
  • Maintaining Exterior of Grill: Keep clean and covered to prevent rust. Painted surfaces should be washed with mild detergent. Stainless steel surfaces should be washed with mild detergent and wiped dry with a soft cloth, using an abrasive plastic pad only for baked-on grease and in the direction of the brushed finish. Porcelain surfaces can be cleaned with baking soda solution or non-abrasive scouring powder. Plastic and rubber parts should be washed with warm soapy water.
  • Rust Prevention: Buff and clean rust spots on interior surfaces, then lightly coat with vegetable oil. Avoid cleaners containing chlorine and storing pool supplies in the cart.
  • Burner Cleaning and Maintenance: Regularly inspect burners for cracks or corrosion. Clean burner tubes to prevent blockages from spiders or insects using a narrow bottle brush or compressed air. Clean the outer surface of burners with a wire brush. Ensure proper valve to burner alignment during reinstallation.
  • Storage: Before storing, ensure the cylinder valve is closed, clean all surfaces, lightly coat burners with cooking oil. If storing indoors, disconnect and remove the LP tank. Place a dust cap on the cylinder valve outlet. If storing outdoors, cover the grill with a grill cover. Check and clean burners after storage periods.
