The Cuisinart Smoke-less Contact Griddler® (GR-6S) is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for a variety of cooking tasks, offering seven distinct cooking options. Its primary function is to provide a smoke-less grilling experience, making it suitable for indoor use.
The Griddler® operates as a multi-functional cooking device, capable of transforming into a contact grill, panini press, full grill, full griddle, half grill/half griddle, or a smoke-less grill, each with independent temperature controls. This adaptability allows users to prepare a wide range of foods, from grilled meats and vegetables to pancakes and sandwiches.
As a Contact Grill, it excels at cooking burgers, boneless meat pieces, and thin cuts of meat and vegetables. Food cooks quickly as both sides are grilled simultaneously. The grill plates feature ribs and a grease spout that directs excess fat into a drip tray, promoting healthier cooking. The self-adjusting cover accommodates varying food thicknesses, ensuring even cooking results. For optimal performance, consistency in food thickness is recommended when cooking multiple items.
For those who enjoy grilled sandwiches, the Panini Press function is ideal. It allows users to grill sandwiches, breads, and quesadillas, creating traditional-style panini with grill marks. The unique handle and hinge design enable the cover to adjust to the sandwich's thickness, resting evenly and allowing for light pressure to press and heat the food.
The Full Grill option transforms the Griddler® into a double flat cooking surface by opening the cover completely. This mode is perfect for cooking burgers, steak, poultry (excluding bone-in chicken for even cooking), fish, and vegetables. Foods need to be turned over manually in this position. With 200 square inches of surface area, it allows for cooking different types of food simultaneously without flavor mixing, or large quantities of the same food.
Similarly, the Full Griddle function, also achieved by opening the cover flat, provides a double flat cooking surface for breakfast items like pancakes, eggs, French toast, hash browns, and breakfast meats. Foods must be turned over when using this function.
The Half Grill/Half Griddle configuration allows for the preparation of full meals, such as bacon and eggs or steak and potatoes, at the same time. This is achieved by placing the unit in the flat position with a grill plate on one side and a griddle plate on the other.
The Smoke-less Mode can be activated with any of the five cooking options mentioned above. This mode offers precise temperature control tailored to the specific food being cooked (Beef, Pork, Poultry, Fish) and minimizes smoke by reducing the burning of fats. This feature requires adjusting the lower plate/base angle by pulling out the front foot extension and, for open positions, adjusting the upper plate/cover angle by manipulating the hinge.
The DuoControl™ Heating Advantage is a key feature, providing independent temperature control for each cooking plate. This allows users to set different temperatures for the top and bottom plates, enabling the simultaneous cooking of different foods that require varied heat levels.
The Griddler® is designed for user-friendly operation. The Control Panel and Display feature a large, backlit LCD screen that clearly shows the cooking function (Grill/Griddle or Smoke-less), upper and lower plate temperatures, timer, sear status, preheat indicators, and food selections.
The ON/OFF Button powers the unit on and off. Up and Down Arrow Buttons allow for increasing or decreasing plate temperatures, selecting food types in Smoke-less Mode, and setting the timer. The Select Button is used to choose the cooking function, while the Confirm Button confirms selections and starts the timer.
The cooking plates are removable and reversible, featuring nonstick surfaces for easy food release. They can be easily inserted and removed using the Plate Release Buttons. The Hinge Release Lever allows the cover to extend back for cooking in alternate positions, including the flat position for full grill/griddle use. A Foot Extension can be folded out from the front underside of the base to create an angle for smoke-less cooking.
The Griddler® includes a Drip Tray that collects grease and is easily removable for cleaning. A Drip Spout ensures efficient grease drainage from the cooking plates into the tray.
The unit offers both Countdown Timer and Count-Up Timer functions. The countdown timer can be set for specific cook times, while the count-up timer tracks elapsed cooking time. The unit beeps to indicate preheating completion and the end of the set cooking time.
Cleaning and maintenance are straightforward. All parts that come into contact with food are BPA-free. The nonstick cooking plates, drip tray, and scraping tool are dishwasher safe (top rack).
After cooking, the unit should be allowed to cool for at least 30 minutes before handling. The included Cleaning/Scraping Tool helps remove leftover food from the plates. Metal utensils should be avoided to prevent scratching the nonstick surfaces.
For tough stains on the housing base, cover, and control panel, a soft, dry, or damp cloth can be used. Abrasive cleaners or harsh pads are not recommended. If cooking seafood, wiping the plates with lemon juice can prevent flavor transfer to subsequent recipes.
For storage, the Griddler® should be cool and dry. The power cord can be wrapped around the back of the base, and the cooking plates and drip tray can be stored within the unit. The scraping tool can be kept in a drawer or cabinet.
