Do you have a question about the Current Dual-Lite PLD10 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Dual-Lite PLD10 is an emergency LED battery pack designed for installation, operation, and service in conjunction with LED lighting fixtures. It serves as an emergency LED driver, providing backup power to LED lamps during AC power failures.

Function Description:

The PLD10 operates as an emergency LED driver, supplying constant output power to compatible LED lamps when normal AC power is interrupted. During normal operation, with AC power applied, a red indicator light illuminates, signifying that the internal battery is charging. Upon AC power failure, the PLD10 automatically switches to emergency mode, operating the connected LED load for a minimum of 90 minutes. When AC power is restored, the unit reverts to charging mode. The device also includes a visual indication for unit malfunction: if a "Charger Fault" occurs, the red LED will blink three times with a 3-second pause between each blink group.

This product is suitable for field installation with various LED loads, including LED luminaires and DC voltage-driven LED replacements for fluorescent lamps. To ensure compatibility and proper operation, four key checks must be performed on the luminaire:

  1. Power Output: The LED load's rated power must be greater than or equal to the 10W power output of the PLD10. This prevents damage to the LED load by ensuring it can handle the emergency driver's output.
  2. Forward Voltage (Vf): The forward voltage of the luminaire's LED array must fall within the limits specified for the PLD10. If multiple LED arrays are used, their total forward voltage must be within these limits. This information is typically found in the luminaire's markings, specifications, or directly on the LED arrays. A voltage meter can be used to measure the voltage across the LED array when operating from the AC driver.
  3. Output Current: The output current of the LED driver (into the blue wire) must not exceed 1.6 Amps.
  4. Rated Efficacy: The LED fixture's rated efficacy must be equal to or greater than 65 lumens per watt (lm/w). This ensures the fixture can be mounted at or below the maximum rated mounting height of 28.4 feet.

Additionally, users should estimate emergency egress lighting illumination levels to ensure sufficient light output. This involves:

  • Finding the efficacy of the LED lighting fixture (available from Design Lights Consortium, Energy Star, or manufacturer specifications).
  • Calculating lumens in emergency mode by multiplying the fixture's efficacy (lm/w) by the PLD10's output power (10W).
  • Using these results with industry-standard lighting design tools to calculate anticipated illumination levels in the path of egress.

While the PLD10 is designed for reliable interfacing with a wide range of LED loads meeting the specified criteria, compatibility with all current and future LED systems cannot be guaranteed, and compatibility testing of the end-use system is suggested. Post-installation, egress lighting illumination levels must be measured to confirm compliance with national, state, and local code requirements.
