Maintenance Features

The service guide emphasizes several important safety and maintenance aspects:

X-ray Radiation Precaution:

  • High voltage must be kept within specified limits (25.5kV nominal, never exceeding 28kV for 20"/21" models; 23.5kV nominal, never exceeding 26kV for 14" models).
  • High voltage must be checked during servicing using the "HIGH VOLTAGE CHECK" procedure.
  • The X-RADIATION PROTECTION circuit must be checked for proper functioning.
  • Only specified replacement picture tubes should be used to maintain X-ray radiation protection.

Safety Precaution:

  • An isolation transformer must be used during servicing due to the floating chassis design.
  • The picture tube anode must always be discharged before handling. Shatterproof goggles are recommended.
  • All protective devices (nonmetallic control knobs, insulating covers, shields, isolation resistor-capacitor network) must be reinstalled correctly after servicing.
  • An AC leakage current check must be performed on exposed metallic parts before returning the set to the customer.

Product Safety Notice:

  • Certain electrical and mechanical parts are critical for safety and must be replaced only with identical types specified in the parts list (identified by shading on schematic diagrams and parts lists).
  • Using substitute parts without the same safety characteristics may create X-ray radiation or other hazards.

Service Notes:

  • When replacing parts or circuit boards, lead wires should be clamped or bent before soldering.
  • High wattage resistors (metal oxide film resistors) should be kept at least 1/2 inch away from the circuit board.
  • Wires should be kept away from high voltage or high-temperature components.

Service Mode Access:

  1. Select CH number 91.
  2. Adjust sharpness to minimum.
  3. Exit from Menu mode.
  4. Quickly press the key sequence: Red -> Green -> Menu on the user remote control.
  5. The "Service Mode OSD" will appear. To exit Service Mode, press "Power off."

The service mode allows adjustment of parameters like R BIAS, G BIAS, B BIAS, R DRIVE, G DRIVE, B DRIVE, V CENTER, V SIZE, H CENTER, VCO, FINE, AGC, POW LAST OFF, SUB BRI, PR, BRIGHT, CONTRAST, and COLOUR.
