TROUBLESHOOTING
Malfunction Possible cause Action
Engine doesn’t start
Engine switch in OFF Put engine switch ON
Fuel cock is in CLOSED position
Put the fuel valve to the OPEN
position
Choke lever is opened Close the lever
No fuel in the engine Fill in with fuel
Engine contains dirty or old fuel Change the fuel in the engine
The spark plug is smoky or
damaged; wrong distance between
electrodes
Clean spark plug or replace; set the
distance between the electrodes
Diculty starting or
reduced engine power
Fuel tank is dirty Clean the fuel tank
Air filter is dirty Clean the air filter
Water in the fuel tank and
carburetor; carburetor clogged
Empty the fuel tank; clean the fuel
line and carburetor
Incorrect electrode gap in spark
plug
Set the electrode gap
The engine overheats
Air filter is dirty Clean the air filter
Cooling fins are dirty Clean the cooling fins
Engine starts but no
output voltage
Circuit breaker tripped Put circuit breaker ON
Bad connection cables
If an extension cord is used,
replace it
Faulty connected electrical device Try connecting another device
Generator runs but
does not support
connected electrical
devices
Generator overload Try to connect fewer devices
Short circuit on one of the
connected devices
Try to disconnect failed device
Air filter is dirty Clean the air filter
Insucient engine speed
