Overview

This document provides comprehensive operating instructions for the DAEWOO KOR-164H Microwave Oven, covering its functions, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The DAEWOO KOR-164H is a microwave oven designed for heating, cooking, and defrosting food. It utilizes ISM frequency energy to cook food efficiently. The oven features a control panel with various pads for setting cooking parameters, including time, power level, and specific cooking modes. It is equipped with safety interlocks to prevent operation when the door is open, ensuring user safety. The appliance is designed for household use and is not intended for industrial or laboratory applications.

Usage Features

The microwave oven offers a variety of cooking and defrosting options to suit different needs:

  • Setting the Clock: Users can set the current time, choosing between a 12-hour or 24-hour clock system. The display will flash ":0" when first plugged in or after a power outage, indicating the need to set the time.
  • Time Defrosting: This mode allows users to defrost food for a specified duration. The oven automatically cycles between defrost and stand times. The DEFROST indicator lights up, and the display counts down the remaining time. The oven beeps during the cycle to prompt users to turn or rearrange the food.
  • Weight Defrosting: This feature simplifies defrosting by automatically determining the defrosting time based on the weight of the food. Specific pads are available for MEAT, POULTRY, and FISH, each with predefined weight ranges (e.g., 500g, 800g, 1000g, 1200g for MEAT). The "g" indicator light and the selected weight are displayed. The oven beeps during the cycle to indicate when food needs to be turned or rearranged.
  • Cooking in One Stage: Users can set a desired cooking time and power level. The oven cooks at full power by default unless a lower power level is selected using the POWER pad. The M/W indicator lights up, and the display shows the set time and power level. Lower power levels are recommended for delicate foods like cheese, milk, and for slow cooking meats.
  • Cooking in Two Stages: This mode allows for automatic defrosting followed by cooking. Users first set the defrosting time, then the desired power level and cooking time. The DEFROST indicator blinks during the defrosting stage, and the oven beeps to prompt food rearrangement. After defrosting, the oven automatically transitions to microwave cooking.
  • Kitchen Timer Mode: The timer can be used as a minute timer, to delay the start of cooking, or to set a holding time after cooking. It operates independently of microwave energy.
    • As a Minute Timer: Set a countdown time, and the oven will beep when the time ends.
    • To Delay Cooking: Set a delay time, then program the desired cooking settings. The timer counts down, and cooking begins afterward.
    • To Set a Holding Time: Program defrosting or cooking, then set a holding time. The oven will hold the food for the specified duration after the primary function.
  • Speedy Cook: This function allows for quick reheating for 30 seconds at 100% power. Repeatedly touching the SPEEDY COOK pad extends the reheating time in 30-second increments, up to 5 minutes.
  • One Touch Cooking: This feature provides pre-programmed settings for common foods, allowing users to cook or reheat with a single touch. Examples include POPCORN (for a 99g bag), FROZEN PIZZA (for 200g or 400g), BEVERAGE (for 1, 2, or 3 cups of 200ml), DINNER PLATE (for 350g or 450g), FRESH VEGETABLE (for 200g or 400g), and FROZEN VEGETABLE (for 200g or 400g). For POPCORN, it's crucial to use prepackaged microwave popcorn, place the bag according to manufacturer directions, and not reheat unpopped kernels. For FROZEN PIZZA, only microwave-safe frozen pizza should be used, and additional cooking time may be needed if the cheese isn't sufficiently melted.
  • LESS, MORE: These pads allow users to adjust the cooking time during one-touch cooking or regular cooking. LESS decreases the time in 10-second or 1-minute increments, while MORE increases it, up to a maximum of 99 minutes 50 seconds.
  • Child Safety Lock: To prevent unintended operation by children, the safety lock can be activated by pressing and holding the STOP/CLEAR pad for 3 seconds. The LOCK indicator lights up. To deactivate, press and hold STOP/CLEAR again for 3 seconds.
  • Stopping Operation: The oven can be stopped by pressing the STOP/CLEAR pad (which retains all settings until pressed again to clear) or by opening the door (which pauses operation, allowing it to resume by closing the door and pressing START).

Maintenance Features

Proper care and cleaning are essential for maintaining the microwave oven's performance and longevity:

  • Cleaning the Oven Interior: The inside of the oven should be kept clean. Food spatters or spilled liquids on oven walls should be wiped with a damp cloth. Mild detergent can be used for very dirty areas, but harsh detergents or abrasives are not recommended.
  • Cleaning the Oven Exterior: The outside surface should be cleaned with soap and water, rinsed, and dried with a soft cloth. Care should be taken to prevent water from seeping into the ventilation openings.
  • Cleaning the Control Panel: If the control panel becomes wet, it should be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. Harsh detergents or abrasives should not be used on the control panel.
  • Condensation: Steam accumulation inside or around the oven door is normal under high humidity conditions and does not indicate a malfunction. It should be wiped with a soft cloth.
  • Glass Cooking Tray: The glass tray should be removed and washed in warm sudsy water or a dishwasher. It must always be in place during operation, and food should not be cooked directly on it. Allow the tray to cool before cleaning if it is hot.
  • Roller Guide: The roller guide and oven cavity floor should be cleaned regularly to prevent excessive noise. Wipe the bottom surface with mild detergent water or window cleaner and dry. The roller guide can be washed in mild sudsy water. The roller guide must always be used with the glass tray.
  • Waveguide Cover: The waveguide cover should be kept clean at all times. Wiping the oven interior with a soft damp cloth after each use helps prevent grease or fat buildup, which could lead to overheating, smoke, or fire.
  • Utensil Test: To determine if a utensil is microwave-safe, place it empty in the oven with one cup of water in a glass measure next to it. Heat on high for 1 minute. If the water is warm but the utensil is not, it is suitable for microwave cooking. If the utensil is warm, it is not suitable.
  • Microwave Utensils:
    • Glass, Ceramic, and China: Ovenproof glass or ceramic baking dishes are generally safe. Avoid items with silver, gold, platinum, or other metal trim, as arcing may occur. Do not heat in glass jars or bottles, and avoid delicate or stemmed glassware.
    • Plastics: Plastic dishes, cups, mugs, and bowls can be used for short periods, but prolonged use may cause distortion or melting. Always check manufacturer recommendations. Plastic wrap should be vented. Plastic cooking bags should be slit and not closed with wire twist-ties.
    • Paper: Paper cups, wax paper, napkins, paper towels, and plates can be used for short cooking. Prolonged use can cause paper to burn. Do not use recycled paper products, as impurities may cause arcing.
    • Metal: Metal utensils should not be used as they reflect microwave energy, leading to uneven cooking, arcing, and potential damage to the oven.

Before calling for service, users are advised to check common issues such as ensuring the power cord is plugged in, the door is closed, cooking time is set, and checking for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers. If sparking occurs, check for metal utensils or foil touching interior walls. Users are explicitly warned not to attempt to service the oven themselves.
